Swim
Comments: First time in a large group open water swim. Was a bit rougher than I had expected. Swam the to the first marker pretty well, than took a couple shots from the swimmer in front of me and got a bit uncomfortable, but managed to finish up the swim ok. What would you do differently?: Practice my swims overall. It is hard to duplicate pack swimming in training, but as soon as I got roughed up, I started to struggle, need to work on technique and staying focused no matter what happens. Transition 1
Comments: First transition ever. Time was a little slow, but for the first time I just wanted to make sure I had everything right. Wetsuit came off pretty easily and got everything else on fairly smoothly. What would you do differently?: Tough to say as it was my first one. Felt like it went pretty well, but I think as I compete more and transition more they will go quicker. Bike
Comments: Started off a little rough as I was still collecting myself from the water I took in my mouth and nose during the swim. Saw a guy throwing up at about the 3 mile mark, so that made me feel better. Did not really push myself to the limit though most of the course, looking back I wish I went a little harder, but for the first race, I just wanted to make sure I had enough in the tank to cross the finish line. What would you do differently?: Bike a little harder, train on the bike more, seems like a good place to make up time for me since I am not a strong runner. Transition 2
Comments: First ever bike to run transition. Went fairly well, a bit slow compared to others, but like the other transitions, I believe speed will come with some more experience and some practice. Run
Comments: I really do not run too well. I have gone a few decent training runs recently but I typically run at a slower pace. I really held back the first leg and the hill climb really slowed me down. The last leg I just did my best to keep from walking, which I am glad to say I did not walk at all. What would you do differently?: Need to train harder and improve my running, can not really make excuses, just need to get out and do it. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed the water bottles they were handing out and had a few sips. Just sort of wondered off to the side and collected myself and my thoughts. Waded into the water to relax, grabbed some watermelon and started to pack up. Event comments: First race so tough to judge as I have nothing to compare it to. Really happy that I did this and was able to finish. I wish I could have performed a little better, pushed myself a little harder, but overall I am thrilled I did this and can not wait to get back into it next season.
