Pre-race routine:

Wandered through the course trying to figure out my strategy.
Event warmup:

Light jog and a swim out to the first buoy.
Swim
  • 07m 20s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

There was a lot of traffic at the first turn. I got kicked in my ribs twice. The ones that are still bruised from last weeks crash. Couple of elbows to the face and a few smacks to the large road rash on my leg and I was good to go. I got a little winded after the last turn. Not sure why. Warm up could have been better.
What would you do differently?:

I have not been able to train like I used to. My bosses decided that PT on my own was too much freedom. Now I get stuck with the standard unit PT instead of my 2 hour sessions. I didn't warm up as much as normal.
Transition 1
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

My time was great for T1. But it took me forever to get my shoes on. I hopped on and pedaled up to speed and after the right turn tried to slip my shoes on. I couldn't get my feet in the darn things. I haven't had any problems like this before either. Finally got them in and velcroed them down. They were loose, but I decide to leave them as they were.
What would you do differently?:

I haven't practiced this in awhile. Maybe I need to work on it some more.

What would you do differently?:

More training.

Comments:

This was the fastest T2 I have ever done.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.

  • 05m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Yes, I ran on the reef.

Event comments:

I liked this race. It was technically challenging, although a little shorter than a sprint. Makes me interested in off road triathlons.

Course: Course was rough and full of debris and rocks. I saw many people working on their bikes on the side. A lot of people would ride close to the cones and make it difficult to pass no matter what you said to them. I tried once telling someone that their leg was on fire. It didn't work, but got a laugh. Coming into Haleiwa town the road paintings can be dangerous if wet. We were lucky today that it was mostly dry. Downhill speed plus slippery bumps on a corner is a recipe for disaster. After last weekend I'm way more cautious now on those road markers and bumps.
