Swim
Comments: Not sure what happened. I felt like I should have swam about 4 minutes faster. This is my slowest swim pace in the 4 triathlons that I have completed. Can't explain, felt fine the entire route. What would you do differently?: Go faster.? Transition 1
Comments: I had a good location in T1; bike was right next to the outlet. I fumbled a bit getting my gear out of the bag. Otherwise okay getting my shoes on. No problem running the mat and getting on the bike course. Bike
Comments: Age group rank and Overall rank not available on the website. What would you do differently?: Not much. I probably could have gone a bit harder. Transition 2
Comments: Kept it simple and fast in T2. I had a good location in the racks. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Used aid stations for ice and water. Got a nasty side-ache at mile 5 and had to slow down. Once I got my heart rate down everything seemed to return to normal. Family was on the course and that definitely helped keep me in good form. What would you do differently?: Not sure. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and relaxed. Drank water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Can't explain what happened in the swim. Did not expect to be slow there. Winds were a limiter on the bike. Better physical endurance would enable pushing harder... either on the bike or the run. Skills and technique would probably benefit from some coaching. I am solo in training. It all needs to improve to break 5 hours on the 70.3. Event comments: Super volunteers. A nice course overall, the run route and finish line are great and it is easy to stay inspired with so many people around. The 2pm start wasn't as odd as I thought it was going to be. I was glad I did the event, I almost skipped it. I would highly recommend this race to other beginners if you don't have to travel too far. Although a bit more expensive than other Half Iron races... the course, support, and venue are super and probably the best that I have seen so far. It is also fun to be in the same race as world champion athletes. That is not possible in most sports I've been involved in. Last updated: 2009-09-01 12:00 AM
