![]() Swim
Comments: Serious equipment problems. Goggles were leaking on the right side, took them off...it was 250 yards, I could do ok. I liked the start method. In pairs, you lined yourself up by skill (guessing) with your time chip starting your time as you crossed the line. Worked well. What would you do differently?: Already bought replacement goggles with protective cases. My theory is that the cat had something to do with it (my spares were very scratched up and no longer anti-fog at all). Practicing swimming might help in the future too. I expected an 8 min swim...so I really wasn't bad. In fact, compartively, it was my best event, 202nd place. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: I wore a shirt out of the water...had trouble getting it on. Also my timing chip was trying to fall off. I stopped right before the transition exit, laid my bike down, and fixed it. Them be expensive you know. What would you do differently?: Next race I swam with the shirt. It's tight and light so it doesn't hurt my swim and it's going to be wet part way into the bike anyway. ![]() Bike
Comments: I couldn't drink barely at all this race, even when I knew I needed water. What would you do differently?: Put less gatorade more water (was a 3/4 gator, 1/4 water blend) in my bottle on the next race. That may have helped or may not have mattered. Either way, Proud as heck of that ride. It doesn't sound great to all you road bikers, but on a hybrid or mountain bike, 14 miles per hour average speed is getting up there. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: I didn't knock over the rack. Always a good way to finish. What would you do differently?: Tried to hop off the bike too early. Darn hills slowing me down. ![]() Run
Comments: Run was HARD on me. Walked more than once (but at a nice fast pace) but could not down any water on repeated attempts, needed it bad. Had trouble. BUT I had a late-race rescuer about 1/4 mile from the finish -- must've been Angela who was noted as finishing 1 second ahead of me. She said "this is where we make our comeback" and I told her to go for it and I would try to follow. Sure enough I kept up the rest of the race, which was faster than I had planned to be finishing. I was hurting though. What would you do differently?: Preconditioning? I dunno...my race the next day was 1 1/2 times as long and SO much better... ACTUALLY...once I finally saw my time breakdown, I have to take that back. 23 min for 2 miles is my goal when I'm running completely fresh, and I did that pace at the end of the race. It may be slow to y'all, but for now I shoot for an 11 1/2 min mi. So I think I did alright ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walking and drinking. Was completely beat! What limited your ability to perform faster: Just training I guess. And a better (lighter, faster) bike. Event comments: Was a good race, very friendly and supportive and EXCELLENT for a first timer. Last updated: 2009-09-01 12:00 AM

Got up at 4:00 AM, left at 4:30 wanted to arrive at the area by 7:00 to check in etc.
Stopped at Burger King (yes, you heard right, Burger King) pre-race because I was early. Had a Hamlet and read a book a little. Arrived early and set up.
Minimal...Walked around quite a bit looking things over, short bike to check brakes etc., a couple short runs, and some stretching.
