Swim
Comments: Very slow on the swim. Lost so much time to the others in my AG that I had no chance of making it up on the bike and run. But I'm so because I had no anxiety on the swim. I was very calm and my breathing was excellent. I was not tired at all coming out of the water, I was just behind everyone. No gasping, no sickness, just smooth(slow) sailing. What would you do differently?: Swim faster on the last 2/3 of the course. Once I seen that my breathing was going to be OK I should have sped up but I didn't risk it. I knew I was going to be slow and I enjoyed the swim. My goggles fogged so bad I couldn't see. Stopped and tread water long enough to clear them and put them back on. Transition 1
Comments: Ran through a sandy area prior to TA so took time to wash and dry feet. What would you do differently?: Would have said "screw it" and just put the bike shoes on and left. Bike
Comments: Underestimated the hills. These hills were tough. It was uphill right out of the TA. Too many minutes of 8-9 mph for a few seconds of 30-35. Hit 39 mph on one downhill where I hit a pothole so hard my aerobottle sponge was lost and I got a face full of water. What would you do differently?: Nothing to do but suffer. I'm a flatlander with no hills to train on. Besides had I been a few minutes slower on the bike would not have helped my run. 38th overall was somewhat of a brightspot. I knew half way into the bike that the rest of this race would not be a pretty site. Transition 2
Comments: I was fairly spent and took a minute getting my shoes on to dry to gather myself. To no avail. What would you do differently?: Have some O2 and an AED available. Run
Comments: Had no legs. All the recent gains I've made in my running was for naught today. The only smart thing I did was carry a flask of hydro fuel which helped a lot. Actually got my legs back at about the 2.5 mile mark. Finished strong but then again the finish was downhill. What would you do differently?: I would have been tactically smarter on the bike especially with gear selection in an effort to conserve some legs. Post race
Warm down: It was pretty hot by the end of the race so I had some ice water and I dipped a towel in some iced water and tried to cool off. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of hill training. Failure to take advantage of being able to swim faster. The heat. Event comments: Enjoyed being part of a group for this race whereas I normally travel alone. I will race this course again but will probably do the Olympic. Last updated: 2005-09-18 12:00 AM

Had some coffee, a bagel, and a danish. Went to race site and checked in to pick up chip and get marked. Set up TA.
Went to the lake and swam for about 10 minutes.
