Overall Rank = 404/5500

Age Group Rank = 45/293
Pre-race routine:

Targeting 7:35 pace 1:39:30 and 167# as of 21 Dec/31 Dec Actuals 7:25 pace 1:37:21 and 168#.

Woke at 0330 and ate 2 cups applesauce and part of a bottle of gatoraid, back to bed till 0540 then 1 ensure and coffee and a little more gatoraid. Built my perpetium bottle for the run (1.5 scoops in small bottle). Met TR and walked to bag drop then to meet ACR.
Event warmup:

Walked to start line, walked to Embassy Suites (race delayed 1 hr) stretched, walked back to start line after gun. No jogging figured I'd warm up in the first mile.

Comments:

4265 finishers 330/1852 males.
Walked to the timing mat and then started running to the left. Crossed the median and ran in oncomming lanes to avoid the crowds. If there was room and a right turn was approaching would shift to the right for the turn then back to the cone line on the left. Went out in a 6:30, noticed it and slowed closer to a 7:45. HR was looking good so I just kept pushing the pace. Wore a trash bag over my longhorn tech shirt hat gloves and shorts. Dumped the bag at 1 mi and carried my hat beginning around 3-4 miles. Didnt really need it. Skipped 1st water stop but grabbed at least 1 cup at every other one. Finished the perpetium at mile 8+/- and dumped the bottle. Wanted to be 7:35 or better at the top of the last straight away and was 7:29. Pressed the last 3 miles fairly well. COurse seemed flatter than last year. Tried very hard to run the min legal distance (straight lines to the corners) and several times I was the only runner on the left side of the course. Most noticable in the UT campus. Don't know if it worked to my advantage but my watch showed 13.1 and TR and ACR showed 13.16 and 13.22. That is free time!
What would you do differently?:

The trash bag idea works well with min wind. don't be afraid to under dress to help stay cool. Short sleves would have worked just fine for this race. Push the HR a little harder for this distance. Hard to judge actual effort with all the downhills

Need to have a bottle in the dry clothes bag next time to mix recovery drink
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around got dry clothes and made my endurox. Walked around and found TR and ACR took pick and got a little food. On the bus back to the start line w/in 40 min.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Exceeded my A goal by 1.5 to 2 min. Coulld have pushed the HR a little higher but was really running by RPE and pace/mi.

Event comments:

Again a good race. Definately recommend running it! You are set up for a PR with good training. Can't help the wind and late start but need to coordinate with the city for a contingency plan. If it were as cold as last year could have been a brutal delay....
