Swim
Comments: I was so nervous standing there waiting to start I thought my heart would explode. Tried to do a 'dolphin' type start, but soon started swimming. My sighting was spot on. Felt like I made a bee-line for those bouys. Was very excited to start passing the guys that started in the wave ahead of ours, and to see a sea of pink caps (my wave) fading behing. In my unofficial research of race times, I think I was the first in my AG out of the water!!! What would you do differently?: Nothing. This is by far my strongest of the three sports. Transition 1
Comments: This was my first time, so think it was ok for me. Got the suit off easily, but forgot to put my shirt on before my helmet. D'oh! What would you do differently?: Just wear a tri suit under wetsuit and not try to put a shirt on while wet! Bike
Comments: I was so happy after the swim, but then started getting passed by all the guys I passed in the water, then passed by the women... this continued the whole way! Damn! I kept thinking, there goes my lead. What would you do differently?: At some point I am going to have to decide to get a better bike if I want to keep racing (I have a fitness bike with cages). And I definitely have to work on getting faster... somehow. Transition 2
Comments: This is where wearing sneakers on the bike helps! The thing that didn't help was the guy next to me taking up too much space on the rack with his bike. I had to move his over just to put mine in. He apologized later. What would you do differently?: I guess it was ok, I was still having fun! Run
Comments: Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. My left hamstring has been bothering me for weeks, but NOTHING like this. Of all the pains I endured through training, this was by far the worst. My hamstring was shooting pain up into my groin and down to my foot. I debated what to do, and decided to just keep moving forward as best I could. I am actually pretty darn happy with this time, considering how much I was suffering. I did walk a little bit, but that almost made it worse. What would you do differently?: Don't know if it was just not training hard enough, not doing enough bricks, or some kind of injury. Post race
Warm down: Cried. Really. I was so happy it was over, and so proud that I did it! What limited your ability to perform faster: I know I didn't train hard enough. I put in the days, but not the effort. Going into it I really thought I coudln't do it, and I was so scared and nervous at the starting line I thought I would freak out. But once I got going, it was actually fun and I realized you can overcome a lot if you just put your mind to it! Event comments: My only sprint tri, so can't compare, but this was a great first race. Flat and fun. The volunteers were fabulous, I really appreciated all the cheers! Last updated: 2009-09-04 12:00 AM

Stayed in a hotel overnight. Woke up at 4:30 after a terrible night's sleep. One of the first at the race site.
Jogged a bit. Some simple stretching.
