Swim
Comments: I am estimating results, as per earlier comments regarding timing SNAFU !!! What would you do differently?: Swim effort felt really good, as i was comfortable during the whole race. Transition 1
Comments: Transition was muddy and narrow, organizers had more space but failed to use it. My transition was a touch disorganized due to insufficient set-up time because they forced me out before i had finished final setup What would you do differently?: I still need to practice suit removal. Need to methodically organize all pieces to have them in proper order. Bike
Comments: I had 2 chain derailluer failures when the chain went from the little ring to the big ring and then past ! Each stop probably cost me about 30 seconds to stop replace and restart. (bummer) after the second failure I became leary to switch out to the bid ring again, but fortunately this happened prior to the big hill climbs so really did not need it muchgoing forward. Down hill desents were wicked fast! almost lost it going into the final turn at the park entrance. (scary!) Finished 94th which I am happy with given how brutal the course was to ride. What would you do differently?: Had taken the bike to the shop just prior to the race, but had not riden it enough after to discover the derailluer issue. Will make sure to do so next time to test all functions. Transition 2
Comments: Bike fell off initial 'racking' due to repare bag blocking the hook on the seat. I got a little cramping in left calf as i was pulling on shoes. What would you do differently?: Just need to practice this more. Run
Comments: This run was no fun. Really struggled. Had to walk about 75 yrds at top of the first steep up hill segment, got water and did ok but started to have some left leg hamstring cramping doing down hill to the turn around. I stopped to stretch for 30 seconds which did provide some relief. finished the down hill run in "ok" shape, but about half way back up the hill i had to start walking again. (bummer!) really did not want this to happen!!! Along came a Debra Soloman from Altoona, PA who passed me, and then had to walk as well. She and I started talking and then we began to start running again. She helped me to 'push through' the final uphill section and then she really 'pushed' me on the steep down hill segment. I had to let her go when we hit the last short up hill section to the flat finish, but she help me finish under 3 hours !!! never would have happened with out her, Thanks Debra !!! What would you do differently?: Needed to train more on steep hills just incase. Post race
Warm down: I needed to bundle up as I started to get a touch chilly back in transition. What limited your ability to perform faster: Probably had not prepared enough for the run segment. Event comments: I will never do this race again. Swim course was fine, but i would have run it backwards as the final leg was swimming directly into the morning sunrise and made it very difficult to sight the finish line. Although the bike course was grueling, i was prepared mentally for it. Should have done more training to be in better shape for the whole event. Needed more volunteers stationed at intersections to better control traffic. The run course was just plain insanity. Had I known in advance, I probably would have not chosen this event. What I learned is that I prefer flatter overall course layouts. Some hill are ok, but this was just plain "no fun". Last updated: 2009-09-08 12:00 AM

Thought I got there with plenty of time, but they closed transition 20 mins before the start and i was not finished preparing !!! Really annoyed me, and then when i left transition, my timing chip triggered the timer for the swim and so i had to estimate my swim data based upon where else i finished. REALLY IRKED ME !!!
