Swim
Comments: I had a very hard time for the first third of the swim. My breathing was fine, but I couldn't seem to get my rhythm going. I started to improve once I rounded the first bouy. After that I was pretty consistant. I am not a very strong swimmer, and I am trying to improve that. The times I have swam with a wet suit it is much faster. What would you do differently?: Create fake snow that cools the water down enough for me to be able to use a wet suit. Or I need to work on swimming open water without a wet suit. Transition 1
Comments: My T1 was horrible. First off the run from water to my bike was about a .25 mile. I didn't realized how far it was and I was exhausted by the time I reached my bike. It took me a while to get my bearings back. I threw on my shirt, socks, shoes and was going very fast. Then i tried to put my gels in my pockets and realized that my shirt was on inside out. It took me forever to get it changed because it was caught on my wet body. What would you do differently?: Set up my transition more efficiently. Start learning how to get into my shoes once on my bike. There are many things I could do to improve. Bike
Comments: I just need to keep working on riding harder. What would you do differently?: More cycling. Transition 2
Comments: This was much faster then T1. I felt very smooth, but I know I can go much faster if I set up my transition area better. What would you do differently?: Practice, practice, practice. Run
Comments: IT WAS FLIPPING HOT!!!! It was already getting hot by the time the race started, so almost 1.5 hours later it was blazing. My legs cramped up for about the first mile. After that I was able to start and get a pace going. About the time I started to feel good I hit a second section of dirt and grass. I run with a short stride so when I am on a trail it gets even shorter. It was pretty tough. What would you do differently?: More speed work, and brick workouts. Post race
Warm down: Stretching, massage, lots, and lots, and lots, and lots of fluids. Two sport bottles of Pure, one bottle of Gatorade, and a few bottles of water. Then the best tasting beer I have ever had. I didn't get to spend much time relaxing back at the house after getting cleaned up because we hopped back in the car and were on the way back to Lubbock. What limited your ability to perform faster: HEAT!! I run during the hottest part of the day to get used to it, but nothing prepared me for the heat and humidity so early in the day. I have never sweat so much in my entire life. Event comments: I would definitely do this race again, if for no other reason then I know I can do much better. Last updated: 2009-09-09 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:45am and ate a bagel with peanut butter, and a banana. Headed out with my brother at about 5. We got to the site very early and were sat up and ready to go by about 5:30. For the next three hours I just walked around and tried to keep my self calm. I always get very nervous and get sick to my stomach before any race. Surprisingly I felt fine and just enjoyed the cool air before the sun came up.
Light stretching throughout the morning. Sat down by the lake and watched the Pros start and then watched my brother start. Just relaxed until my race started.
