Swim
Comments: Treaded water until wave start. Felt strong on the swim, majority free-style. Stayed close to buoys. Got kicked by swimmer that I didn't see, felt ok after that. Thought master swim class workouts would give me faster time, but not the case. On the way to finish, had to swim around a few people. Swam all the way until I could touch the sand. What would you do differently?: Run up the hill to T1. Look where I'm going, so I don't cut my foot again. Transition 1
Comments: After making it up the hill into transition area, had no problem finding my bike, which was in 10th row back. Took off goggles and cap on the way in to T1. Dried off feet with towel, put on socks and almost fell over, put on shoes, watch, ate gel with water, put on helmet and sunglasses, put on bike gloves, got bike and ran down row then turned left to go out of T1. Had trouble getting right foot into pedal - lost time here. What would you do differently?: Don't bother drying feet, put socks on right away. Practice clipping into pedal in race mode. Save gel until on bike. Bike
Comments: Felt strong on the bike. Practicing the course 4 times prior to the race definitely helped me know when to gear change. Felt good when got to top of Mt. Albert!! Drank too much, had to stop at 10 mile marker for bathroom, and wait in line. Lost 10 minutes here- bummer! What would you do differently?: Practice eating gel with water while biking, to save time. DRINK less so I don't have to stop!! Get more comfortable accelerating down the hills! Transition 2
Comments: Unclipped from bike successfully! Running with cleats/bike shoes was not that bad. Lost time when racking bike. Took helmet and gloves off, then shoes. Realized then that I forgot to untie my running laces during transition set up, so took a little longer to untie, then tie my shoes. Drank water, grabbed gel #2, visor and race belt. Put on race belt while running out of T1! What would you do differently?: Prep my running shoes ahead of time! Run
Comments: Felt okay for first mile, no cramping! Second mile went well. Walked/jogged most of gatorade wall and rest of course. What would you do differently?: Practice bike to run brick more! Post race
Warm down: Walked around with family and friends. Ate some cookies and banana. What limited your ability to perform faster: Drank too much and had to stop during bike. Event comments: Well organized race. Had fun and will sign up for next year! Last updated: 2009-09-11 12:00 AM

Got up at 4am. Had half bagel w/peanut butter and water. Left at 4:45am to get to Centennial park by 5:15am. Leaving early helped the nerves, had to wait in line to enter the park.
