Total Time = 4h 01m 1s
Overall Rank = 49/54
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 5/5
Pre-race routine:

At a meal-replacement bar for breakfast and a banana. Also, has a gu gel about 45 minutes before the start and 15 minute before start. Lots of water too.
Event warmup:

None - should've stretched though
Swim
  • 50m 3s
  • 2310 meters
  • 02m 10s / 100 meters
Comments:

I thought I did better in the swim than I did. The first or second buoy, I got to the left, so that cost me a little time, but other than that sighting was awesome, rounding buoys while almost tapping my shoulder on them. Water was a little choppy.

Actual swim time was around 46 minutes, rest was run up to the mat, which I walked most of.
What would you do differently?:

Get stronger and better and running out of the water.
Transition 1
  • 03m 46s
Comments:

Long transition. Took my time, had to put a beanie on my head because helmet gives me a very bad rash. Also, had trouble getting the rubberband out of my hair to put my helmet on.
What would you do differently?:

Figure out how to keep the ponytail in a good position so I don't fiddle with it after the swim before the bike. I always lose time on that. Also, figure out how to take a gu gel on the bike, as I always take on in transition.
Bike
  • 3h 07m 13s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.95 mile/hr
Comments:

While course was flat and fast I still suffered. I know I hydrated enough, but I constantly went between feeling great and hammering it, and feeling not as great and slowing. Maybe it was the chomps kicking in and being used up? Don't know if the cold I had the week before was totally gone either, so that could've affected things.
What would you do differently?:

Need to learn to use the aero bottle. Spent probably minutes because I had gatorade in the bottle holder and water in the holder behind the seat which I had to slow down to get to and had some trouble putting it back in.

Remember to put on body glide or vasoline where the seam of my shorts hit. That is the most sore area of my body from the race cuz it chafed for 3 hours. OUCH!!
Post race
Warm down:

Stretching cuz legs were cramping towards the end. I think cycling shoes were too tight (also just bought green superfeet to put in) as I could not walk for hours cuz the sides of my feet hurt too much. Didn't feel it while riding though.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Still trying to figure out nutrion issues. Still getting comfortable with all my gear. Probably a cold I wasn't totally over. Not the best on hills. Also the fact that I only did 1 ride over 33 miles this year.

Event comments:

Race was great and lots and lots of volunteers!!! Lots of aid stations too.
