Swim
Comments: Awesome, great swim, fought off a couple of punches mid way and found each buoy really well. Suit was on perfectly so it was really no trouble at all. Transition 1
Comments: This went fast, found my bag, changed and off I went. Bike
Comments: Felt good starting out but began to cramp at Richter's. My calves were seizing on every climb so at every aid station I got off and stretched my calves and took in lots of electrolytes. Descending was awesome, I hit 83.3km/hr on one downhill and over 75 on a couple of others. At Cawston the wind came. 60km/hr gusts (36 mph) right in our face. This dropped me at least half an hour as I was down to only 10-16 km/hr when I normally clip along at around 25-30 there. Couple that with some light rain and wet roads and it was interesting. What would you do differently?: Make sure my calves were ready to go. Transition 2
Comments: Took a little longer than I wanted to but I wanted to make sure I got some salt in me to try and help my calves. Run
Comments: AWFUL!!! Tried to run out of transition and my calves cramped immediately. No big deal... walk fast and warm them up. Tried to run, nope. By 5km in I could feel blisters starting on the balls of my feet and 37km later it was pure agony. Was able, because of the crowd's help, to run in the last 2km. My worst "run" in history. Post race
Warm down: Get to medical and sit in a wheelchair. Event comments: This race will make you feel like a champion whether you finish in 8:45 or 16:59. The main drag is packed and every town you go through on the bike and run has its own little party going on and there are 4500 volunteers for 3000 competitors. Amazing experience.
