Swim
What would you do differently?: I didn't get a wetsuit, and I wouldn't bother with one in the future. Transition 1
Comments: Struggled with getting shirt on, and with putting on my knee brace. What would you do differently?: A snugger racing suit or tri suit would probably be better than my tight workout tanktop over swimsuit set-up. Or I could have worn a sports bra under the bathing suit. Bike
Comments: I was nervous that I would be walking my bike too much, but for those of us in the back, it was common. CamelBack came in handy. What would you do differently?: Practice on course more. Transition 2
Run
Comments: CamelBack came in handy again. Fun trail run. What would you do differently?: Nothing- I'm happy with how I ran. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: My ACL brace limits extension and my stride, but I couldn't have raced without it. I biked much more confidently with it than the one time I tried the course without it. Event comments: The on-course training for this race was great. If you can attend those or train at Hale in the last month, this is great for a first timer. Otherwise, it's a tough course if you don't know it. Last updated: 2009-09-13 12:00 AM

This was my first tri, and I used Beginner Triathlete's 16 week training program. Early on, I was followed it religiously, but as the summer progressed, I slacked off a little, maybe doing 1/2 the workouts in the last month.
Hale also offers some on-course training that I went to twice, and they mark the trails a few weeks in advance (so I was able to learn the bike course on my own time). This helped me out a ton, I knew the course well and had a chance to swim in open water.
I pretty much just set up my transition stuff and waited.
