Swim
Comments: This was my first tri so I just wanted to finish and have fun. They had the clydes/athenas/relays start together. One of the clydes started with the male AGrs, and I was wondering how come someone did not say something. (more on this later) I had one racer in front of me, but I fought the urge to chase him down. I may have been able to push harder, but not sure how it would have affected me the rest of the day. What would you do differently?: Make sure goggles were tighter before race as to not deal with the water fill up. Transition 1
Comments: I had no idea what i was doing. What would you do differently?: Buy a tri top to eliminate the dry shirt being pulled over the head and have a race belt so I could just add it during the run. Bike
Comments: I felt great after the swim and knew I would have to be careful and not push too hard. I have been training hard lately and my goal was 19MPH. I started out and was a little over 20 and made sure my leggs were not pushing too hard. After 4 minutes my cateye froze up and i was lost. I think the rain got to it in the morning so I was on my own. Every person I saw I reeled them in. I think I was only passed 1 time during the ride and it was someone from the short course. Not know cadence, speed or mileage and a course with no markings leads to a lonley road. I thought I killed the bike for my first tri. I have a raleigh super course with 2 cracks in the steering head and I was loving my final time. What would you do differently?: make sure bike computer does not get soaked during rain so maybe it does not freeze up. Transition 2
Comments: My rack was right in front of the bike dismount line so i had a fast time. My socks were wet from the rain so they did not go on very easy. What would you do differently?: practice taking feet out of shoes before dismount. Run
Comments: I left T2 and thought I was in trouble off the bike. I think with all the people cheering i was pushing a little hard, but i was able to pull back and recover for the short run. I asked the people at the first aide station how far along i was and they did not know. Luckly someone with a garmin overheard me and yelled out the distance. I did not like not knowing the distance. I thought they would have had some type of markers on the course so i could simply use my watch for a pace, but nothing was out. Overall I thought my run was strong considering I had just beat my best training run MPH by almost 3MPH. My run pace is just about at my hard training pace. What would you do differently?: I can not complain. Post race
Warm down: walked around, then chased my son around. little stretching Event comments: This was my first race, but I do know the communitcation and website could use some work. The course maps were never on the website and it seemed to lack information. I overheard one of the organizers say they did not think the race was going to happen last week. During the pre race meeting the bull horn was not working very good and it was hard to hear what was hard to hear of the changes that were made. ** when the results were listed I noticed the clyde who started with the AGrs finshed 2nd. I looked and he had a time of 3 minutes. Now how can anyone over look that? I brought it up to one of the organizers and he wanted me to do go get the bib number etc. I beat the guy by 20 second, but I brought it up because it was simply not right. woke up at 4am and had a bottle of water then showered. I then dressed and made me a bagle with peanut butter and a banana to eat on the way. Drove to race site and was the 3rd car into the site. Worked out great because I racked 10 foot from bike start/exit. we watched as some lightning was in the distance, then it rained pretty hard for a short time.
