Swim
Comments: Sort of a poor beginning that they had a bull horn to tell participants about the course, but the batteries weren't working so they tried just yelling the directions, and they were confused about there own course. The course was maybe a bit too long to just have a single buoy way out there and then to have everyone come back with little guidance. What would you do differently?: I would have looked more. Otherwise I thought I did pretty good. Transition 1
Comments: I slipped coming out of the water and fell back in coming off the swim. Once I stopped slipping and got into T-1 I got my cap and goggles off and into my sleeve right then got my suit 90% off but had to sit down to get the rest of it off. I made the mistake of trying not to spend more money on a tri top and so after the swim I tried to put on a biking jersey, big mistake. Jerseys are typically tight and when I'm wet they don't go on quickly. I put the visor on for running an realized I wasn't running but biking. What would you do differently?: Differently? Well, I'd step up and buy a tri suit, that would save me a minute right there! I'd practice and streamline my t-1 routine! Pull wet suit off, have tri suit on, practice getting shoes on while on the bike instead of sitting down and putting them on. Bike
Comments: I came out of the T-1 area and after a couple of turns found myself in about 12 miles of uphill hell. Anaerobic in about the first 5 minutes and it took nearly the rest of the race of get back to aerobic. I just kept cursing the event people for not telling me. I was a little peeved to say the least. What would you do differently?: personally I thought I was ready but maybe I just need to do only hills when I train?? Transition 2
Comments: I found someone's bike in my slot (again) and had to slide it over. I took off on the run and had to come back for my shades, I hadn't gone that far. My legs were shot. Period. The bike killed my legs. What would you do differently?: I'd be more organized. Run
Comments: My legs were gone due to the hill that just killed them. They took at least till the second lap to feel better. What would you do differently?: I'd do more bricks I guess. Post race
Warm down: Stretched. What limited your ability to perform faster: The hills on the bike portion. Mentioning them would have been good. Event comments: Having a working mega-phone at the beginning of the race is helpful. "Not mentioning" the (12 miles of) hills killed the race for me and everyone I talked to. Not enough water or aid stations. Lame post race party. I could have done a better job. Last updated: 2009-09-13 12:00 AM
