Overall Rank = 101/124
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 17/18
Pre-race routine:

Up at 6. Bagel/pb/jam. Cup of Coffee.
Transition setup. Wetsuit took 10 minutes this time-pbest!
Event warmup:

Swung the arms around a bit on the beach.
Swim
  • 13m 19s
  • 650 meters
  • 02m 03s / 100 meters
Comments:

Felt great on swim. Thought I would be slow as was first swim race ever. Waited for on beach for a space to open up in front of me and then headed out on my pace. Caught up by first buoy-75meters-and then drafted behind someone the entire way. Saw people raising their hands for assistance I assume they started out too fast and got caught in the churning water.
What would you do differently?:

Start in the swarm.
Transition 1
  • 05m 23s
Comments:

Took alot longer than I thought to take off wetsuit, put on socks, shoes, hrm, helmet glasses, race belt etc. Felt uncomfortable running out in my bike shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Practice!
Bike
  • 47m 45s
  • 20 kms
  • 25.13 km/hr
What would you do differently?:

Train for hills more. Actually beat my training time of 52 minutes.
Would also run into and out of transition on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 03m 29s
Comments:

Strange transition. Took 30 seconds to pee!
What would you do differently?:

run into/out of transition. Hold it?
Run
  • 27m 2s
  • 4 kms
  • 06m 46s  min/km
Comments:

Started out fast for me and my hrate was at 150 almost immediately. 1st km was 6:40. 2nd 7:20, and 3rd right at 7minutes. Planned to go hard with 1 km left but they had shortened the run for some reason so sprinted the last 200 M when I saw the finish line. Still had lots left in the tank.
What would you do differently?:

Ask if it was 5km as advertised?
Had a good plan that was thwarted :)
Post race
Warm down:

Ran across line. Family waiting, took some pics and had a stretch.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Transitions!

Event comments:

Will do it again next year. Will know what to expect. First triathlon and wanted to ensure finishing ok so I didn't push the pace on any event.
Next time I'll know my limitations/strengths better.
