Pre-race routine:

Had some cereal w/raspberries and part of a myoplex for breakfast about an hour and forty five minutes before the race. Took the light rail and arrived about an hour before the race. Walked around a lot, used the restrooms early, and checked my bag about 30 minutes before the start. Met Steve near the bag check and headed out to meet some more friends.

Next time I would eat a little earlier and use the bathrooms a second time. I wanted to use the bathroom again right before the race started, but there was a huge line so I skipped it. Also, I would line up earlier next time. I got over to the start about 15 minutes before race time and the chutes were full, so by the time I got into the start area the 10 min pace people were in front of me and I spent the next five miles zig zagging through traffic.
Event warmup:

Not much of a warmup. I very briefly jogged just to get some blood flowing, but then had to stand and wait for a while so I really wasn't very warm.

Comments:

Very crowded near the start with slower people. My first mile pace was 9 minutes. I'm not sure about mile two, I missed the sign. I felt good through the race up to about mile 10 or so. The last three miles I was hurting in my knees and hips, though my muscles felt like I could go a lot further.
What would you do differently?:

Next time I would line up closer to the front and try to hit my goal pace at the beginning. Also train more on conrete and asphalt. I did not drink enough because I find it difficult to drink at aid stations. I did take water a couple times, but it's really hard to drink out of cups while running. I should have worn my water belt and next time I want to try my hydra pouch. I didn't use it this time because it's new and I didn't want to mess with something new in a race that was important to me.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around for about 45 minutes eating and hydrating, watched Steve finish, and then had brunch with my wife at Zaidy's.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The crowd near the start and my lack of experience. This was my first 13.1 (other than in a triathlon) and I did not know how hard I should go out. I also have not done many training runs that are this long so I wasn't sure how well I'd hold up after about 9-10 miles. In the Boulder Long Course Tri I crumbled at the end of the run with my pace dropping from 8:40 to over 10 minutes in the last few miles and I did not want that to happen again.

Event comments:

I thought the race was great, however the start could have been better organised.
