Swim
Comments: Weird swim. The right goggle lens that failed me in Muskoka last week, failed again. It was fine during the warm up but I think I screw-up my face in a funny way when racing and it breaks the seal. Annoying. This was the first triathlon where I started the swim in the front. It was a good idea as there were a lot of slow swimmers present. I had to swim with one eye closed and it was a pain in the butt and caused me a bit of panic at one point when my contact lens got messed up. The last 300m I swam very fast and I was probably top 10 in my age category out of the water. What would you do differently?: Bring my old reliable goggles Transition 1
Bike
Comments: I was cranking away, passing everyone and only got passed by two people. About 9km into race I was DQ'ed for centerline violation. I was flying at 45km/hr when up ahead I saw two slow moving cars. The first turned off to the left, the second vehicle started going again and then stopped in the middle of the lane. I could not pass it on the right because a number of slow ladies on hybrid bikes were there - I decided to pass to the left (there was about 1-1/2 feet between the vehicle and the center line. Just as I was about to overtake him, he accelerated and veered left (no turn signal). At 45km/hr and in aero-bars my choices were veer across the yellow line or hit the car and get run over. I swerved across the line. The OAT official was right there and DQ'ed me. I didn't bother arguing when he pulled up to me. Lesson learned. I should have slowed right down to 25km/hr and followed the ladies on the right - especially since I could see the drivers in the SUV were old, local farmer types. After getting DQ'ed and admonished by the OAT guy, I continued riding. I had a decent ride but my fire was a little bit out. What would you do differently?: Not get DQ'ed Transition 2
Run
Comments: I didn't really push myself too much. Post race
Warm down: Played with the kids. Failed to win a draw prize for the 21st consecutive time. I think this may be a record! What limited your ability to perform faster: Getting DQ'ed Event comments: This is still my favorite race location and the HSBC / Multisport group does a fantastic job year after year. I had a fun race and would have finished in the top third if I had not gotten DQ'ed. Oh well - there is always next year. Last updated: 2009-09-19 12:00 AM
