Overall Rank = 230/539
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 18/39
Pre-race routine:

Ate a banana and granola bar, had a cup of coffee.
Event warmup:

Jogged a little (very little), swam a little.
Swim
  • 16m 17s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started horribly. My worst open water swim performance so far, but then about 200 yards in, got things settled down. I got winded during the start, then panicked a bit and had to backstroke. Once I settled down, it was my best OWS so far, so it was a mixed bag.
What would you do differently?:

Practice run in from the beach starts, more open water swim practice.
Transition 1
  • 03m 27s
Comments:

Felt kind of sluggish, like I just could get moving.
What would you do differently?:

Get there earlier so I could position my bike closer to the entrance/exit. Learn to go without socks.
Bike
  • 35m 15s
  • 12 miles
  • 20.43 mile/hr
Comments:

Could have pushed harder. I lost focus a bit a couple of times.
What would you do differently?:

Ride harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

Pretty good transition. Time is a little deceiving compared to Rattlesnake tri because the transition area was really long. I felt this was a pretty good transition.
What would you do differently?:

Had left my hat in my bag, so I had to dig it out costing untold seconds.
Run
  • 29m 49s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt pretty good. Again, I didn't push myself that much until the very end when I saw another clyde and sprinted through the finish to pass him. I ran without my gps for the first time in an event. I think I pace myself better with it.
What would you do differently?:

Wear the gps, push myself more.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, got some food & water, got my goodies.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I felt kind of unfocused and sluggish all day. I didn't feel very prepared. Work has been chaotic and I was out of town for part of the week, which screwed up my routine a bit. This was the first tri where I didn't feel like I had completely left everything on the course. I probably couldn't have finished much faster, but I did have some gas left in the tank.

I also need to make sure I've gone to the bathroom beforehand. I really had to go 5 minutes before my wave, so I made a quick trip (and no I couldn't have just gone in the wetsuit). Putting back on a wet wetsuit and stressing about the time undoubtedly contributed to my poor swim start.

Event comments:

I'm not sure I'll do another race at Cherry Creek until they repave the road, I find the cracks to be really brutal in some sections and they suck my will to go faster. I liked the transition set up that Tri the Creek did in the same space much better. It was less crowded and shorter to get through. Crescent Moon should talk to them next year about how they did it.
