Swim
Comments: Horrible swim. Water wasn't too cold and felt OK as the horn sounded. Placed myself generally in the middle, second row. The start was a disaster. I got kicked scratched swam over sideways (where the hell were they going) and to top it off I couldn't catch my breath for the first 300 m or so. 2 strokes then I'd have to breast stroke for a few seconds. Couldn't figure out what was the matter. Finally opened the neck of my wetsuit a bit and felt a bit better. Then I got into an OK grove and the rest of the swim was better, but that first few minutes slowed me down. About 1/2 way through the swim this one guy decided to draft off me. I don't really have a problem with it except when he hit my foot with his hands 15 FREEKING STROKES IN A ROW! I finally kicked his hand and he left me alone. Managed to go just under 26' so it turned out OK What would you do differently?: Maybe a new wetsuit? Transition 1
Comments: It was muddy and i tried to keep my feet clean. Put on socks because I had new bike shoes (2 rides in them) because my old pair ripped. Got the socks on easily and made it up the muddy hill without too much of a problem What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: The rain held off for most of the ride except about 10 minutes. Was very cautious because the roads were wet. Still having issues going down hills - someday I'll get over my crash and broken collar bone. Saw an ambulance pass me so I figured somebody had gone down pretty badly. Just wanted to stay upright. Kept within myself. probably could have pushed myself a bit hard - but was dreading the run. Did manage to PR the bike by 2 min. What would you do differently?: More time on the bike Transition 2
Comments: EZ into transition. Wanted to make sure that I didn't slip coming down the hill to the bike racked. Got shoes off and running shoes on with out getting any mud on my feet. Run
Comments: Was dreading the run. Haven't put in the miles really. My goal was to make sure I didn't walk except for the water stations. Managed to hold to that and even skipped 1. Passed a good number of runners and only was passed by 4 the entire time - so I can't complain. I knew that my goal of sub 2:30 wasn't going to happen when I started out - I wasn't going to run 41' so I just wanted to PR. And got that by almost 2 min. What would you do differently?: More running! Post race
Warm down: Walked around and got some food and water What limited your ability to perform faster: Weather and time on the bike and running Event comments: All in all - I have to be happy with the race. I managed to PR by almost 2 min even though the weather didn't cooperate and my swim wasn't very good overall. I think if I had had a good swim (24' or below) I would have pushed a little harder and my goal might have been within reach. Such is life Last updated: 2009-09-21 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:45 and got a cup of coffee then jumped in the car for the 1/2 hr drive to Columbia - in the rain. Ate a PB&H sandwich and drank some Gatorade. It was pouring when I arrived. I went and set up my transition. Put both bike and run shoes in grocery bags so they could stay a little dry.
