Set-Up, Inc
Total Time = 1h 07m 54s
Overall Rank = 21/244
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 3/29
Pre-race routine:

Banana, toast with PB, Water. Got packet. Waited 2 hrs until pool time.
Swim
  • 05m 14s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

Time included a run to the timing mat, which was about 100 yards or so out of pool. Gave my nephews "5" as they were poolside cheering me on. Felt fine. Short swim. Passed some folks.
What would you do differently?:

Time was fine, but swim was very short and bike and run were more important for overall time. Next time might take it even easier and save everything for the bike.
Transition 1
  • 02m 55s
Comments:

Felt fast, but slow compared to others.
What would you do differently?:

Could invest in a tri-shirt and faster shoes. Otherwise it's fine.
Bike
  • 36m 44s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 20.30 mile/hr
Comments:

Passed by 409 out of park and never tracked him down. He went 4 mins faster than me. 20 MPH average felt good. I wonder if second lap was faster than first since I had not ridden course before. Fun course with a couple hills, but nothing you could not carry speed over top of.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder on the flats and up the hills - now knowing the course. Could have come into park faster, too, I think.
Transition 2
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

Again felt fast, but average compared to others.
What would you do differently?:

Hmmm....had shoes unlaced...I guess I could have the quick tie shoes and a tri-shirt. Otherwise, this felt decent other than tying my laces.
Run
  • 21m 24s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt OK, but heat was coming on and the last hill was tough. I don't know how much more I had to give, but I had a nice kick again.
What would you do differently?:

I suppose I could try and trust myself and really try to pick up the pace a couple times to see how it feels. I had a kick for about 150-200 meters so I felt OK and had some power. Easier said than done, but worth a try.
Post race
Warm down:

Went through finish line, got water, had a sip and some over my head. Then went to see wife, nephews, and bro-sis-in-laws.

Event comments:

Fun race since it was close to family. Nice message "who are you racing for" -- emotional morning when they said the prayer before the race. I would do it again.
