Swim
Comments: I'm just not fast, and gas out early. Need to take this out of the pool and into the open water in the early Spring. I know I've said this before, this time I mean it. Ironically, my navigation was spot on, so I feel good about that. What would you do differently?: Need to work on the swim. Transition 1
Comments: My guess is that the T1 timing mat was down on the beach as there is no way this took me 5 minutes. Having said that, I had some trouble in T1. I decided to wear a dry, looser fitting running singlet instead of my tri-top because all of last years race reports said it was quite cold and I thought I would freeze on the bike. Of course it ended up that it wouldn't of mattered this year but whatever. So, I had trouble with my wetsuit. Fair enough, it's not like I wear a wetsuit every day. But, I had more trouble putting on the singlet, which pisses me off because I've put on a shirt probably over 13,000 times so far in my life. I should be OK at dressing at 40 years old. What would you do differently?: I'm at a loss for reasons why I had trouble with the shirt. Bike
Comments: Had some trouble getting into my pedals, but once I was in I thought it was a strong ride. Paced with two other riders most of the way. Enjoyed it. What would you do differently?: Not that I could go Aero a lot in this race, but that's a priority skill to develop in the off season. Transition 2
Comments: Not bad, was using my new Zoot TT 2.0 flats so shoes where on fast, though I did take a few extra seconds to put on socks as well. Also, lost some time because my row was a little thick with other racers, plus it was a long way to my rack from the dismount area. But I think it ended up being much faster than Long Beach at the end of the day. What would you do differently?: No complaints, really. Run
Comments: Loved the Zoots. This was a personal best for me. Negative splits as well. It just took me a few minutes to get used to running off the bike and then no problems. What would you do differently?: Not much to be honest, perhaps transfer some of my running Jedi powers to swimming. Post race
Warm down: My 4 year old kicked some guys Felt tri-bike, perhaps by accident. But one can never be sure. Had to diffuse/apologize for that and handle my son. All while enjoying a bottled water. Then we just left. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swimming and more focus in transition. My times on the bike and running are coming along fine. Event comments: I though MESP put on a great race. Last updated: 2009-09-23 12:00 AM

The usual. Up at 4:45, out the door at 5:15. Was nice to have Mary and Ian in the same car this time. Had a Muscle Milk, a Clif bar, and a Gatorade.
Swam about 100 yards prior to my heat.
