Pre-race routine:

The usual. Bagel, Bananna, and water... I shouldn't say the usual.. Didn't want to risk coffee this morning.
Event warmup:

THE USUAL.. Standing around talking to my friends, and family. Staying relaxing and enjoying the moment.
Swim
  • 35m 45s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was taking all the bouys wide.. Adding extra time to my swim. I never did get into a rythm. I kept telling myself to slow down, but the water was cold, and I just wanted to get done, and I WOULD HAVE TIME TO RELAX ON THE BIKE! Or so I thought.
What would you do differently?:

Really stay focused on form. I just never got into a rythm
Transition 1
  • 04m 6s
Comments:

My Air Stream water bottle feel off when I was running out of T1 after I hit a big pot hole. SUCH A LONG BIKE I had to go back for that extra bottle. I thought I would need all the water I could get my hands on.
What would you do differently?:

??? Avoid potholes.
Bike

Comments:

What a terrible day.. I got a flat in the first 10 miles in my rear tire. I was still cold from the swim, and really caught off guard. Kept telling myself not to get down about it, but hey I want to do well. Oh well. Fix it and ride on! I had a bladder issue this day as well. I had to stop 4 times on the bike to pee. AND I MEAN PEE. Not a trickle.. We are talking weak knees pee. Then on mile 45 or so... FLAT AGAIN. REAR TIRE... Damnit. I haven't had flats hardly at all. This sucks. I am not having any fun yet! YET... I am 4 hours into this workout. I better start having fun!
What would you do differently?:

Maybe not get too many flats..
Transition 2

Comments:

Felt great... But had to pee 1 more time before the run!
Run
  • 2h 16m 19s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt good on the run. Had a negative split so I was pleased w/ that. Was able to finish strong, and feel good about the run. I would have liked to have been a lot faster (PR for 1/2 marathon is 1:45), but all in a days work I guess.
What would you do differently?:

Picked up my pace a little quicker than the last 10k
Post race
Warm down:

Exchanged war stories with all my friends who had finished, eaten, showered, had a few beers, and were waiting for me!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

FLAT TIRES, and SPARE TIRES (on me..aka love handles)...

This is all for run. I love this sport.

Event comments:

A great race... AA SPORTS does an awesome job in the northwest.
