Pre-race routine:

Got up and made the drive BACK to transition!! The bike drop really takes the whole weekend. I realize why it is necessary, but it really does take a lot of time. Had some coffee and a banana.
Event warmup:

None really, time got away from us and we had to make it to the swim start!!
Swim
  • 09m 37s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 24s / 100 yards
Comments:

Really crowded at the turn bouy. It was such a short distance to the turn that we were still very bunched up. The swim was really crowded, I got the "shit beat out of me!!" as I heard someone say from behind me just before the turn to the beach. I had to agree. it was a tough swim, crowded and A LOT of breast strokers! Par for the course with so many 1st timers! I finished the backside really well.
What would you do differently?:

Swim outside, be in the front.
Transition 1
  • 02m 55s
Comments:

Pretty good transition, the hill always kills me, but it is the same for everyone. It gets your heart rate up for the bike!
What would you do differently?:

nothing.. not a bad transition
Bike
  • 36m 53s
  • 13 miles
  • 21.15 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike, I love the course. Only a couple of short hills and a lot of flat/slight downhill. I wish they would do and OLY in the same location.
What would you do differently?:

Train a little more right up to the race. Sometime life gets in the way family, sick kids you all know the drill. I did all I could on the bike and was satisfied with the result. I know I can go faster with more training.
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

I'll take it.
What would you do differently?:

??
Run
  • 27m 21s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Great run course. My plantar faciitis had been killing me all year. I have run maybe 20 miles since the May turtle crawl race and that was 2 weeks ago. I am looking forward to an injury free season next year!! I have to get the PF under control. It is just killing my training and ability to put down any competetive times... Considering the circumstances, I am really proud of my run!
What would you do differently?:

Train more, not have plantar faciitis!
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some water and got some food. no pizza as it had not come yet.. Who is the older lady at the food table? She is really nasty, I asked my wife if she could get me a slice of pizza as she was already in line. I got a really dirty look and she yelled at me to GET IN LINE!! PS.. there was no pizza left. Got a foot message at the 1st choice tent... Thanks I will be stopping by next week!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My foot and lack of training on the run. I have to say I am VERY happy with my time. I did all I could and felt strong throughout!

Event comments:

Great race for beginners and a benchmark from year to year. I don't know if I will include this on my schedule next year.. The bike drop.. Big minus. I also think it is getting too big. Really crowded on the bike. My buddy got squeezed on a traffic circle on the bike and crashed/broke his collar bone. tough way to end the season. I felt really bad for him. Just too many people not paying attention on the course!!
