Swim
Comments: Was more comfortable in the murky, icky water than I thought I would be, didn't get bumped and knocked around as much as the Splash n Dash I participated in 2 days prior. Swimming into the sun was difficult, but I feel I had enough space other than the various people swimming at a diagonal right over me. Passed some people from the earlier waves, so was happy with that. What would you do differently?: More OWS pracd tice, since I kinda enjoy it. Figure out why I am so slow and work on that! Transition 1
Comments: Felt this went pretty well, no wetsuit to take off, so just getting helmet, socks and shoes on. Didn't want to risk an accident so just ran with bike to mount line, stopped, clipped in and started riding. What would you do differently?: Get more comfortable running in bike shoes. Maybe work on a running mount. Bike
Comments: Could have pushed harder on the bike. Made sure to drink my fluids since I am awful at that. Took the corners pretty carefully, so I need to work on getting more agressive on the turns. Try not to worry about getting a flat and just GO! What would you do differently?: Work on bike handling skills, get more comfortable in turns/corners. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty good, felt I didn't waste time doing anything. What would you do differently?: Not grab shot bloks since they didn't sit well in my stomach. Get quick laces in shoes, would save a couple minutes. Learn more mount/unmount bike techniques. Run
Comments: Run is my weakest due to so many injuries in the last 2 years, so I just wanted to make it thru without my knee blowing up. Found a pacer and stayed with her up until mile 2, then passed her and kept passing people which felt good. Didn't feel like I was pushing it too hard and everything felt fine. Final kick in the end. What would you do differently?: Not much, I feel I pushed it just right due to my limitations and was VERY surprised that my pace was much faster than what I train at. Shows what competition and adrenaline will do! Post race
Warm down: Walked around for a bit to find my family and hung out with them for a while. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of experience - this was my first triathlon and I just wanted to enjoy it and not have any major problems. Event comments: Very happy with this race. Other than the tight bike course, I enjoyed the venue. Good race set up, lots of volunteers and positive energy! Will definitely do this one again - maybe the Olympic next year! Woke up at 3:45 without the alarm. Drank cup of reheated coffee, 1/2 banana with some peanut butter. Loaded gear into car (bike was checked in day prior), went to pick up friend and headed down to venue. Stomach was acting up a bit so I wasn't very hungry but tried to drink a Propel on the drive down.
Not much, entered the water in waves and had a 25m swim out to the starting line buoy. Tread water until the gun went off - took about 4 minutes.
