Age Group Rank = 67/140
Pre-race routine:

PBJ Toast. 3 small pancakes. 1/2 banana in car. Ate plenty, couldn't get more down from nerves.
A little rushed before race.
Had a gel 20 min b4 swim.
Event warmup:

Jogged 2 minutes. Pushups etc.
Swim
  • 16m 45s
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

First OWS!
That was hard. I never got into any rhythm. Did a few strokes and arms got really tired, had to breast stroke a bit. This repeated. Contact with others wasn't too bad, but it would get me out of rhythm. I think my arms are just too weak for long sleeve wetsuit. But all in all, just at 2 min per 100yd, which is my normal non-wetsuit pool swim time.

What would you do differently?:

More wetsuit swimming. Maybe try sleeveless.
Transition 1
  • 02m 12s
Comments:

Long run from beach (though I don't have anything to compare to). Went alot beter than past T1s.
Bike
  • 51m 40s
  • 17.2 miles
  • 19.97 mile/hr
Comments:

I had a good ride. Official results say avg 20 mph which i'm ecstatic about. I was hoping for 19mph. I wasn't too tired after either. had some cloud cover for part, which made it almost cold. lots of bikes to pass. Had a gel at start and then with 2 miles to go.
Transition 2
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

Had one foot out of shoe on top, with the other still in but strap off, because I thought about doing this too late. not too bad though. bike transition area with 1300 bikes. This went well for me, though I forgot to tighten my laces. And all through the race I was off with Garmin button presses.
Run
  • 23m 44s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

This went well. I did stop 2 minutes in to tighten my shoes and to stretch my calfs. This seems to be a recurent thing for me from bike to run, so I'll have to remember to stretch them in T2. Grabbed a cup of water to pour on head going out, and one to pour into face coming back.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster. I think I left some time out there. I was worried about making it the whole way and abdomen cramping.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretch, find family, wait in lines.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swim (maybe wetsuit). Experience.

Event comments:

Lots of people. Lots of long lines. But it was fun.
