Overall Rank = 2529`/2719
Age Group = Paratriathlete
Age Group Rank = 6/7
Pre-race routine:

as with all races for paras lots of logistics to take care of -how to get car to start getting from swim to transition-- was surprised only wheelchair athlete there some amps and vision impaired and some relay teams with chairs but only chair one doing the whole race
Event warmup:

got there early so early I was the first racer in the swim area, lots of sitting around and arm stretching fueling up
Swim
  • 41m 35s
  • 2143 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

no clue what happened first 50 yards 3x swallowed lots of water threw the whole swim off ended up swimming maybe half on my back current was great though twice kayaker had to steer me back on course. finish came up faster than expected. With a good swim should have cut 10 minutes off
What would you do differently?:

have to fix my breathing and sighting in open water, luckily was able to fix some wetsuit issues the last week before race was rubbing my neck raw from stitching tried various remedies finally realized not closing the velcro on top solved problem
Transition 1
  • 14m
Comments:

took awhile to get out of the water couldnt get close quick enough for crew to get me into wheelchair
What would you do differently?:

remove velcro holding leg pull bouy faster
Bike
  • 4h 17m 58s
  • 56 miles
  • 13.02 mile/hr
Comments:

Very happy with bike, rolling hills are still big hills for handcyclist, shoulders and elbows started to hurt around 30 miles amazingly at about 18 miles a cyclist ran into me from behind!!!! was not crowded at the moment apparently was watching his computer and wasnt paying attention luckily no one hurt just kinda a shock. Passed three other handcyclist two with relay teams which really gave me a boost
What would you do differently?:

as always build more strength for hills
Transition 2
  • 15m
Comments:

was kinda slow had to stretch my back out problem getting chip activated someone had to take it run it down and swipe it over the mat toobad they didnt get it close enough so didnt respond ended up without run time
What would you do differently?:

this chip issue comes up at almost every race since paras cant get through transition area to mat and have to get someone to run it down swipe it and put it back on
Run
  • 1h 35m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 15s  min/mile
Comments:

run was awesome too bad my computer came off after bump at 3 miles. Didnt pay attention that it was a double loop and was surprised when i finished first lap thinking i had incredible run!!! spilt water on my gloves at water station making them too slick to stay on pushrim. had to stop wipe them off and re glue them cost about 5 minutes felt great passing hundreds of runners in my chair after so many had passed me on the bike. saw many of the same people who passed me in the last 10 miles as I flew past them
What would you do differently?:

not spill water -pay attention to race map batten down computer
Post race
