Swim
Comments: Worst swim ever. Was comfortable in the water, but once I got past the first buoy I could not swim in the suit well. I was struggling, and for the first time ever, I had to just side-stroke to make forward progress. Waves did not affect me, current did not, cold did not - lack of swim specific practice did. What would you do differently?: Swim more, especially in the suit. During my first sprint last year, I hadn't swam in 15 years and was over 2 minutes a 100 faster. I am shocked at my time. Pathetic. My only consolation is I was probably part of less than 1% of NJ residents who said they went for an ocean swim today. Transition 1
Comments: Took my time, as I had a lot to take off and put on. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Swim took whatever motivation I had away. Decided not to pack it in and just complete the tri without getting crazy. I was upset as well; I put on a running jacket and I could not get into aero, as the shoulders were too tight. Spent the entire ride on top of the hoods. Stupid move to have never tried the jacket before. What would you do differently?: Ride with equipment I've tried before. Transition 2
Comments: Decent enough. Nothing too much to say. What would you do differently?: Not much Run
Comments: As expected. I've only been able to bike recently, so I knew the run was not going to be great. What would you do differently?: Get the run training ramped back up. Post race
Warm down: Got my stuff and headed back home. Beautiful day, and I'm glad I participated, but I was not happy with my performance. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of consistent training. Event comments: Great race, and I'll definitely be back next year. Last updated: 2009-10-02 12:00 AM

Up at 4:00, on the road by 4:30, go to site at 6:30. Picked up my packet, milled around, did some light jogging. Ate a power bar on the road and one about an hour before the race.
Got in the water expecting to be shocked by the cold and was pleasantly surprised.
