Swim
Comments: Stood on the dock before my wave to see for the first time what 1.2 mile swim looks like. First thought..."OMG, that's a long f.... Shut up don't look again. Just get ready to go." Water temp wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I never got cold or too hot on the swim. Just right. Had an issue with the pull string attached to zipper. It somehow got over my shoulder and under my arm to try and strangle me at about 900m. What would you do differently?: Velcro tabs on the pull string to keep it in place during swim. Also may be easier to find when running for transition area. Transition 1
Comments: Wetsuit strippers rock. Kind of. Thanks for helping get the wetsuit off. Thanks for throwing it in my face. Thanks for the apology. I know you didn't mean to. Apparently, neither of us were paying too close attention at that point. What would you do differently?: Pay more attention. Bike
Comments: Legs felt great almost the whole ride. Didn't feel too much fatigue till about mile 40 when quads started to burn a little bit. Must remember to cut Jelly Belly bags open before the ride. Tearing them open with my teeth at 25mph is a bit unnerving. What would you do differently?: More Jelly Bellies on the bike. Transition 2
Comments: No issues here that I remember. Run
Comments: OK. I have done six sprints before so I was prepared for a bit of pain for the first two miles. My quads were dead for the whole run. Kept my focus by breaking the run into "just reach the next water station" increments. I swore before the race that I was NOT going to walk except briefly at the water stations to drink. Success!! I had a shot at 6:30 around mile 10 but knew it would most likely kill me. This being my first 70.3, I decided to hold back and just stay focused and roll on in. I wanted to do about 2:20 for the run but figured what I gained on the swim I was using here. What would you do differently?: Better training to prepare for the run. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: I am generally pleased with my time and effort. I planned on a 7:15 - 7:30 effort (the current on the swim I think helped WAY more than it should have) on the day. Thought I might get to 6:30 if I had an amazingly good effort. I didn't do any BRIC's in training. I knew it was going to hurt me but just never had the time during training to do both together. I think this is where I lost the 6:30 goal. Event comments: Pleased with the effort. The last six years of my life have been rough and I was beginning to feel that life may have finally beaten me down too much. I found out that I will still stand up when I get pushed down... no matter how many times I get pushed down... I WON"T QUIT!! I WON"T GIVE IN!!! Last updated: 2009-10-02 12:00 AM

Woke up at a decent time, about 5:45, to start getting things together. I had a breakfast suitable for a champion... two, unheated, strawberry, frosted poptarts. (insert Homer Simpson impression here) mmmmm... poptarts. Oddly, not nervous about this being the longest tri I have ever done.
I left the transition area at about 7:10 and had a leisurely barefoot 1.2 mile walk to the start from transition. My wave started at 8:50 so I didn't see any point to wait for the bus and the fifteen minute walk could become my warm-up.
