Swim
Comments: While I was a bit apprehensive about the swim, I felt well prepared and swam better than I expected. My goal was to swim the course in around 10:15 or so and I finished with a time of 9:43. Felt very comfortable throughout the swim. Very good swim course for someone competing in their first tri. Transition 1
Comments: Upon exiting the water I had a little bit of difficulty reaching the string to unzip my wetsuit. Once I was able to find the string I had no problem taking my wetsuit off in a timely manner. What would you do differently?: I had a bit of difficulty in putting on my socks prior to the bike which caused me to waste unnecessary time. I think next time I will try to skip the socks and ride sockless. Bike
Comments: Going into the race I felt that my strongest area was the bike portion of the race. I felt good going into the bike and then about a quarter of the way through the course we hit a head wind that caused my speed to drop dramatically. Easy and flat bike course I just didn't expect the wind. In training I was able to keep an 18 to 20 mile per hour pace on a continous basis, where during the tri I averaged only 15.7 MPH. Something to improve on for sure. What would you do differently?: Pushed harder on the bike. Transition 2
Comments: Transition was much smoother than T1. Run
Comments: Going into the Tri I felt that running was going to be my weakest portion of the event. While I have never been strong runner I had a goal of running 9 to 9:30 pace, and was able to keep a sub 8 pace throughout the run. What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: Found my family and enjoyed rest of the day in San Diego. Event comments: I felt this Tri was a very good triathlon for someone doing their first race. As everybody always says after their completing their first triathlon, "I am hooked". Last updated: 2009-10-07 12:00 AM

Woke up around 4:45 and had a bagel w/ peanut butter and a banana. Since this is was my first Tri I wanted to get to the transition area early so I wouldn't feel rushed in setting up my transition. Left hotel around 5:00 got to transition area around 5:10 or so. Gave me plenty of time to figure how everything was supposed to be.
I did a light 10 minute jog around Mission Bay and swam for about 10 minutes just prior to my wave starting.
