Pre-race routine:

Got up and ate a bagel. Started hydrating a bit. Drove to race site.
Event warmup:

Didn't have time for any warmup at all.
Swim
  • 06m 3s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim went well. We were seated by bib number and I started a bit late. Got right in and did well sighting the seven or eight buoys that were marking the course. Rounded each buoy pretty well and didn't have much to draft off of.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure....felt pretty good.
Transition 1
  • 03m 7s
Comments:

I need to spend some time evaluating what is taking me so long in T1. It seems like I am taking forever. Maybe socks???
What would you do differently?:

Use the wetsuit stripper guys.
Bike
  • 58m 37s
  • 21 miles
  • 21.50 mile/hr
Comments:

The first half of this bike course is awesome! You are flying down hill for most of the time. It's not a steep hill at all, but you are able to really cruise. I loved it...really. The rain was pelting me in the face and shoulders pretty hard, but it was all right because it kept me nice and cool. There were also troughs of rain in the lane I was riding in.

The route back was up the same gradual hill so it was not too bad. Noticeably slower than on the way out, but still kept an all right pace. Started to get passed by a good number of guys near the end of the bike course.
What would you do differently?:

hills hills hills
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

I guess I need to venture into the world of unstrapping my shoes on my bike eventually....not sure if that will happen anytime soon.
What would you do differently?:

Use quick laces instead of tying my shoes.
Run
  • 46m 36s
  • 5 miles
  • 09m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

Well, I had better start running more often, because it is quite obviously my weakest link. It's frustrating, but it is what it is....

I actually had no problem with breathing on this course. My legs were hurting and my stomach wouldn't let me give any more than I was already giving. I knew I wanted to jump in and start more run training right after the race and was hesitant to go fast and hurt myself with my little run experience.
What would you do differently?:

Try to relax and pick it up a bit at half way.
Post race
Warm down:

Some mild stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The run...is this even a real question?

Event comments:

I really liked this race a lot. The venue and volunteers and organizers did a phenomenal job with everything!! I wish the swim were longer, but overall it was a great race and we had a blast.
