Swim
Comments: The swim course was fine, although cut short. The water was kinda gross at the beach after everyone went in b/c if churning, but that happens. What would you do differently?: Nothing, but I am trying to learn drafting. Transition 1
Comments: It was freezing out! 38* when I got to the race, probably up to 45* at T1. What would you do differently?: Nada. Bike
Comments: Hardest thing I have ever done in my life. I am a slow cyclist anyway, but I knew it was a hilly course so I trained for hills. Compared to my training rides that were mostly hills and included 4% - 6% grades, this course took me an extra hour. It was brutal, but I finished it. What would you do differently?: Train hills? Ride this course over and over? Transition 2
Comments: I have never been so happy getting off my bike. Run
Comments: Pretty hard and very hilly. I had a pretty slow time, but the down hills really hurt my joints. A friend of mine who was training for a marathon ran with me, and her assessment was that it was not rolling hills and was a hard course. What would you do differently?: Train hills? Post race
Warm down: Walk around, stretch. What limited your ability to perform faster: The hills! Event comments: Overall, the race was extremely steep and I don't think the description aptly described the race. This was my first HIM, so I expected it to be hard overall, but the hills were brutal and I trained for hills. I was miserable from about halfway through the bike to about 2 miles from the finish because I thought I wouldn't be able to finish (even though in training I had completed an unofficial HIM). I will say though, that it was awesome to finish such a hard race. Last updated: 2009-10-07 12:00 AM

Ate half a bagel, but didn't warm up too much because the race was delayed 20 minutes or so.
