Total Time = 1h 37m 2s
Overall Rank = 14/53
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 3/7
Pre-race routine:

woke up at 0415, had a cup of coffee, showered, had a banana, loaded the car, waited for Ricardo, almost forgot my Garmin, drove to HAFB, found event location, set up transition area, and picked up packet...
Event warmup:

rode bike a bit to put on cycling shoes, jogged with a few strides...of note 19/75 overall including women and relays...
Swim
  • 17m 39s
  • 766 yards
  • 02m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

36/72 including women and relays...just not a good swim for me...what was I thinking???..I swam like it was a leisurely swim...it's a f____ing race!!!...I know I could have done better, in fact I know I can do 14 minutes...
What would you do differently?:

do more speed work, don't get "locked" into a pace..
Transition 1
  • 00m 38s
Comments:

this is run to bike...rode for about 1/2 mile before slippin feet into shoes...
What would you do differently?:

this was OK for me...
Bike
  • 55m 59s
  • 18.64 miles
  • 19.98 mile/hr
Comments:

the first half was a bit faster than the second half, but there was a bit of a headwind the second half...gotta work on race pace endurance...18/75 including women and relays...
What would you do differently?:

see above...do more HIIT...
Transition 2
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

this is bike to swim...it was a bit of a run from rack to pool (had to go through building to get to pool)...
What would you do differently?:

actually pleased with my time...
Run
  • 21m 55s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 03s  min/mile
Comments:

19/75 including women and relays...actually overall pleased with my run...started off faster than I intended but kept the pace, fell in line with someone with same pace, and just hung on...gives me hope I can break 20 minutes in a 5K...
What would you do differently?:

keep up the greater volume of running, hill work for strength, HIIT, long runs, but also more tempo work...
Post race
Warm down:

walked around, changed clothing

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my swim...I was in la-la land...I KNOW I can do better than this crap I put out there today on the swim...

Event comments:

now that I know triathlon, I do not like these reverse triathlons very much...HAFB, though it has many "volunteers", were not positioned in such a way to help with intersections, had way too many water stations ON THE BIKE COURSE, and seemed to be winging it...one race leader went the wrong way on the bike and DNF'd out of frustration...something similar happened at the HAFB Duathlon earliet this year...
