Run
Comments: The race went OK. I hadn't trained a ton since Chicago, nad went into this without much expectation. The last couple of days before though, I was feeling really good, and was having delusions of a PR on minimal training. I started off slowly, and hit the 1 mile mark in 7:33 and thought, holy shit, I'm flying, so I slowed down, and the next mile is 8:52. Then I sped up trying to find a good pace. I felt fine for the next 2-3 miles but was thinking that I really had to pee. About mile 8, I could hold it no longer nad had to stop. I must have had 2 liters in my bladder, nad I had gone to the BR 15 min before starting. Once I started back running, I felt stiff after peeing for so long. By about 11, I had settled back into a rhythm, but I was already hurting and thinking that it would be a good day. By 14 I was done. I had shifted into survival mode. At 17, I noticed a blister pop up, and I hobbled to the 20 mile turn back towards the strip. I kind of got a second wind at that point, and jogged slowly between water stops, where I would walk for 30-40 yards and start the shuffle again. The last 5 miles were better than 14-21. I made it though, it was ugly. Didn't feel too bad and am ready for an easy run tomrrow. What would you do differently?: nothing. This was a fun trip with Nancy, and didn't want to kill myself after a hard Chicago marathon. While the race itself wasn't impressive, I was pleased with the way I stuck it out over the last 5-6 miles, and the fact that I felt better over the last 5 miles than miles 15-20. Post race
Warm down: walked the 1.5 miles back to the hotel What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of training Event comments: Thie was a great race. Very well orgazined, good expo, start corrals were helpful. Everything went off on time, the skydivers and fireworks were cool. Running down the strip was great except for the drunk fools who were coming in from the night and didn't know what was happening. Once the course turned offthe strip, it was pretty dull, but at least, once we turned back towards home at mile 20, you could see where the finish was, so that was good for the psyche. Overall, this was a good race. I didn't race well, but everything went very smoothly, and when it's over, you are still in Vegas. There were some good entertainment offers through the marathon which was good too. Always good to save money when you are in Vegas. Last updated: 2009-10-15 12:00 AM

GOT UP, ATE 2 PACKS OF OATMEAL, AND walked the 1.5 miles or so to the start. Unfortunately, I didn't feel like going to the buffet at 5AM to get any eggs, and therefore had no protein before the race. The walk to the start seemed LONG, too.
the 1.5 mile walk was plenty
