Pre-race routine:

Got up to eat about 3 hours before race and took resting HR. Everything was ready to go, so I took it easy.
Event warmup:

Rode my bike to the race, so I was warmed up with that. I went for a slow run after setting up my bike. It was cold, so I was just moving around in order to stay warm.
Run
  • 15m 30s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

It's only a little hilly, so it's a nice course, easy to run.
What would you do differently?:

I started in the back because this was my first race, but I ended up passing a bunch. I think I should try moving forward next race. I may have gone out too fast because my legs were a little burnt on the bike, but maybe not.
Transition 1
  • 00m 50s
Comments:

It was a little confusing to figure out where to go and where to mount. They were plenty of volunteers to tell us, but I was confused and there were no signs.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more. I lost the rubber band on my shoe, so my shoes were spinning around. I didn't do a flying mount. Instead, I just put my leg over and tried starting that way. I still got fumbled around with my shoes. I also didn't get up to speed before putting my shoes on so I was messing with my shoes as people rode by me. I need to do that next time.
Bike
  • 38m 2s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.93 mile/hr
Comments:

My average speed in CP is usually 18 - 18.5, so this was faster. Still, I didn't think it was race pace. Plenty of people were going by me.
What would you do differently?:

I don't feel as strong on the bike as I wanted to be. My legs were burning. I really need to get stronger, but I guess that will come with practice. It will also take practice biking after running. I guess this has turned into my weakest sport.
Transition 2
  • 00m 34s
Comments:

This was pretty easy. They had it set up well. Since it was so cold, I didn't change anything, so I just had to get my shoes on and helmet off. Of course, I almost didn't think about taking my helmet off.
Run
  • 16m 11s
  • 2 miles
  • 08m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

My legs were definitely bricks, but that starting wearing off after the first mile.
What would you do differently?:

Practice running off the bike to get used to the feeling.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Biking strength.

Event comments:

This is my first race with this group. I like it. I can't speak with too much experience, but it seems to be a pretty small operation that works well. You shouldn't expect a bunch of fancy activities, but it's just what I would want. I will definitely do another one and would suggest it to others.
