Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4AM. Ate a bagel with peanut butter, got stuff ready, checked out of hotel. Drove to race, fortunately I had driven to the park the night before so I didn't get lost. It happened a lot on this road trip :)
Event warmup:

Brief swim in the 3-5 foot waves to make sure I wouldn't drown during the swim.
Swim
  • 36m 58s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 45s / 100 yards
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Don't know transition times because they didn't separate it but I know both transitions were REALLY slow. In this transition I was a little dizzy from the waves and had to recover balance a bit.
Bike
  • 3h 11m 33s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.54 mile/hr
Comments:

I think this includes the first transition but I'm not sure. The same wind that was causing the waves was also on the bike course. It was a really pretty course though and the bike was lots of fun.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Don't have transition times but this transition was fairly long too.
Run
  • 2h 26m 39s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 11s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

I would have trained on more trails if this had been a race where pace was important. I probably have also been slacking on my running since the marathon and that probably didn't help.
Post race
Warm down:

Wandered around, got food and water. Stretched, showered, and drove home.

Event comments:

Parts were organized well, parts weren't. I don't think this is a repeat race for me merely because of course conditions.

Course: There were 3-5 foot waves the whole swim. These not only made it almost impossible to see the big bouys, it caused several swimmers to panic. I dodged two kayaks rushing towards swimmers having trouble on the first segment of the swim. One bouy came loose and drifted toward shore so I swam off course to try to stay to the right of it but realized it was loose and moving too fast so I just corrected and swam towards where I figured the next bouy was. We then turned and swam into the waves which was the worst segment but once I made the 2nd turn it was possible to get into a rhythm swimming and avoid the worst of the waves. The final segment was fairly short but was kind of fun because it was like we were body surfing in.

Course: Truly nasty trails. Where it wasn't muddy it was loose gravel, except for the uneven rock parts. After I fell the first two times I walked any questionable areas. Afterwards, as I was helping a fellow racer put bandages on the road rash she got from the run, I was thankful I did. There were also no bathrooms available on the course so I had to use one of the park facilities which meant a slight detour from the course.
