Swim
Comments: Went to far end of line to start. Crowd there this race -- word must be getting out about it being a good place to start!! Didn't have to sprint too far until I was clear and then just cruised. I like clockwise course as I can just watch the buoys as I breathe. Stayed wide until the turn on the back stretch and then slid closer to the line. When I could see it, I aimed for the last turn (to the left towards the ramp/exit). Pushed it for the swim in. A little faster as I was able to sight the last mark and the exit. Felt good. Water fairly calm. Only brushed up against one swimmer the whole time. However, I thought my time would be faster by about 2 mins. Maybe there was some current. What would you do differently?: Nothing. By the way, I rate this swim as 'average' only because I feel my time was slow. Transition 1
Comments: What did I do, eat breakfast? I didn't think it was that slow. I do take my time but this is slower than last year. What would you do differently?: Maybe run faster? Dress faster? Bike
Comments: Tried to take it easy the first few miles to recover from swim/transition runs, etc. And as soon as I mounted it started heavy misting so the roads were wet for maybe five miles. Then just tried to ride as best I could. Try to maintain speed and take advantage of the downhills. I was in the drops for 2/3rds of the course and that is pretty good for me. I didn't think I got passed nearly as much as last year. But last year I had a mtn bike! I expected at least 18 mph average. Took water and my gu as planned. What would you do differently?: I did my best but I need more bike work. Lots more bike work. Transition 2
Comments: Slow again. What would you do differently?: Go faster. Don't know how. Run
Comments: It always amazes me how well I run these when compared to the fact that my stand alone 10K is only 2 minutes faster! I felt terrible and lacked confidence. Not only did I walk the aid stations but also three other times (when my HR went about 160). It was so much cooler than last year (according to the thermometer), but it felt worse on the course. Maybe really humid? I was soaked. When I was done my running shoes were so wet you'd have thought I swam in them. What would you do differently?: I need to get back to running more. I've been trying to follow tri training schedules but it's not working for me. I feel much stronger and more confident when I'm running more. My time, even with walking, was faster than last year's and not too far off stand alone 10K time, but I didn't feel good or confident running. Post race
Warm down: Drink water. Walk around. Watch others finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm at a different stage of training than I was when I raced last year. This was my A race in 2009 but my A race this year is still 2 1/2 months away. I need to be more consistent on the bike. I probably really need to talk to somebody about learning how to ride a bike and train for races. I've only been doing it for 16 months but I'd have expected more progress. Event comments: I really like this race. Great location and CGI does a good job. I will continue to do it year after year as long as I am able. And I want to add -- SUPER FAST posting of race results!!!!! Thanks. Last updated: 2009-10-29 12:00 AM

Up at 4:45 (was awake at 4:00). Usual race breakfast: coffee, Cliff Bar, Powerbar Gel, peanut butter, water. Left to be in parking by 6 AM. Body marking and bike rack set-up.
Took a little swim. Always seems to help. Then just kind of wandered around and tried to stay calm until my wave started.
