Swim
Comments: the water was wonderful... warm.. safe... well except for about a hundred people slapping and kicking at you... God, I am slow in the water What would you do differently?: nothing as I will always suck at swimming Transition 1
Comments: being a reverse sprint, T1 was run to bike.. it was good, if you call trying to put on wet cycling shoes on wet socks, good.. changedout of gear quickly and was on my way.. fun part was running thru ankle deep water and carrying my bike.. What would you do differently?: nothing... it was what it was.. Bike
Comments: OMG... was that ever fun.. I held on for dear life as I have NEVER raced in the rain on my bike.. I was scared s***less the whole ride.. Finishing up the first loop and heading into that headwind for the second when it started to pour, I was woo-hooing and yelling just like Lt. Dan in the crow's nest of the "Jenny" in Forrest Gump.. All that was missing was the thunder and lightening!! The tailwind was wonderful as I was topping 21 mph.. I would have put pedal-to-the-metal had the conditions not been so brutal.. Still, it was shocking getting yer butt washed while trying to stay on two wheels. Only one scary moment on loop 3 when trying to reach for my water bottle, the front wheel got squirrelly for a sec.. I thought for sure I was gonna be introducted to the pavement right then and there.. The headwinds just worked you hard... Everyone was well-behaved out on that wet runway.. I LOVE that bike course... What would you do differently?: nothing... I am stronger for doing this race in such brutal conditions.. Transition 2
Comments: T2 was bike to swim.. took a deep breath and took of the bike stuff, grabbed the goggles, mask and swim cap and I was off.. so glad i chose to put my running shoes back on.. muddy puddles and rocks... no tender foot problems today!! What would you do differently?: nothing.. Run
Comments: oh hell... this was great.... can't believe I ran that fast... What would you do differently?: nothing..... I was fast.. ;) Post race
Warm down: getting to 24 HR Fitness and into the jacuzzi as quickly as possible.... What limited your ability to perform faster: nothing... I was happy with it.. Event comments: this was a fun race...didn't care for the puddles and mud but like Clint Eastwood said ... Improvise, Overcome, Adapt"... The race was well-supported with great volunteers. Lots of porta-potties and aide stations. The course was well-marked and lots of people to point us in the right direction. Even in the rain they stood their ground. A group of BT'ers met before the race and that was fun. It's always cool to meet people you chat with.. I think had the weather not been so brutal, the race would have been a bit more enjoyable.. When the weather conditions are as bad as they were, tends to dampen the enjoyment. But, you have to go with the flow on race day as you have no control over what kind of a day it will be. Looks like everybody had a good time to have over 700 people finish the race... If you are looking for a fun race, this one is it! Last updated: 2009-10-31 12:00 AM
