Swim
Comments: 7 minutes slower than last year. Could be current, lack of wetsuit or mismarked course. Likely a mix of all 3. I've read from others that the course was about 300 meters long and the buoys were misaligned. I swam from buoy to buoy so if they were not set correctly, I swam too much. Slight tightness in my left hip in the last 10 minutes, which I've never had before. Hped it didn't set a bad tone. Had "Nonbeleiver" by the Crash Kings stuck in head. Why? I don't know. What would you do differently?: Train more, especially on kick to save legs for later. Transition 1
Comments: Had a long way to go for my bike. Got into shoes and geared up just fine. Noticing I was already 7+ minutes behind last year's pace, I was not lighting a fire under myself in hopes of setting records here. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Be less winded coming out of the water? Bike
Transition 2
Run
Comments: At mile 11 I considered lighting myself on fire to cool down. Post race
Event comments: Volunteers ROCKED this race. No way it was survivable without their help. Last updated: 2009-11-01 12:00 AM

Up at 4:45. Actually, woke up at 4:44, checked alarm and noticed I'd set it for 4:45 *PM*. Tri gods seemed to be on my side...(enter ominous music.) Had banana, Gatorade, and a Thomas's Everything "bagel" with PB on it. Bag was prepacked, grabbed it and got to the car with Fil.
Well, after parking the car and on the walk to transition, we saw a bunch of people going the other way with wetsuits. Huh? One person saw Fil with his and broke the news to us: "water's too hot...no wetsuits." (DUHN DUHN DUHHH!!) And so it began. Got to my bike, set up, hit the portapotty, applied sunscreen and wandered around until the start. Found Derek, Dave, Fil in the white-capped crowd and made my way into the water with them.
