Pre-race routine:

Woke up, tried to eat a little. Drank 12 oz water. Set up transition. Wated till the last minute to get into my wetsuit.

Comments:

Not bad for my first Triathlon. I should have done an open water swim or two before race day. Very clean clear water, pretty warm also considering. What little current there was pushed me way off course after the first buoy. Wasted about 5-7 minutes due to course corrections. Since I'm not the strongest swimmer I swam freestyle for a while then would roll onto my back and kick. Did that about 5 0r 6 times. Was very happy to be done and walking up the boat ramp and into my first ever Tri transition.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to swim for distance with a swim coach. Shoulders hurt a little the next day due to poor form on my strokes.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Wetsuit came off pretty easily, not too much fighting. Jersey was tough to get on because I was wet. Shoe and socks on, quick drink of water and off I went.
What would you do differently?:

Bring a towel to stand on while dressing.

Comments:

2 laps. Nice little course pretty view of the Colorado River at some points. Small section of badly damaged road on an uphill climb made it difficult for about 3 minutes each lap. Overall uneventful, this was my best and strongest section.
What would you do differently?:

I was riding a borrowed bike that I have since bought. Train more with my race bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Meant to take off my bike shorts so I only ran in my swim suit, but I forgot. Didn't realize what I had done until about a quarter mile into the run. Everything else was fine. Took too long drinking water and getting my shoes on. I also ran the wrong way out of the transition area, about a dozen people shouted to me to turn around. A few laughs later I was back on course.
What would you do differently?:

Be better organized in setting up my transition.

Comments:

Started with a trail run, about .25 mile on dirt and up hill. My goal was as it always is.....just dont stop or walk. Unfortunately my shoelace untied and I had to take a minute to retie. Didnt need or drink or need any water on the course.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Only started training about 1 month before the race. I will train much more for the next one.

Event comments:

Fun, for my first Tri. Don't have any other point of reference but it was a blast. Definately need more work on the swim, and just about every other aspect as well. Lots of fun and I'm already signed up for my next race. I can't wait!
