Swim
Comments: Great swim. I kept it easy and smooth the entire time. I never felt rushed (I tend to start too fast) and breathing and stroke were in perfect rhythm. This was almost exactly how I would've swam in a master's class. What would you do differently?: Trust my training and push a little harder. Transition 1
Comments: Time here is an estimate from my husband. With such cool temps, we had to take time to dry off and get some extra layers on. Went pretty smoothly. Helmet was tight tho. What would you do differently?: Race in warmer weather so I didn't have to do so much in T1. Bike
Comments: I wore my tri shorts instead of slipping on longer carpis to cover my quads and knees. My legs were frozen, and didn't warm up until 7 miles from the end. The first few miles were tough, and this is where the hills were. I had trouble getting in my groove. Once I got there...good and speedy. There was a smidge of a head wind (and tailwind!) that helped keep me going. Hills on the way back were better, but not great. Overall, I kept pushing myself. I wanted to make it under 1:20, and I knew I'd have to work to do that. I wanted the bike segment to be over, so I just kept on pedaling. If it was over, I thought I could get warmer. What would you do differently?: Race in warmer weather. Don't neglect bike training. Transition 2
Comments: Again, this time is an estimate from my hubby. I felt quick here, but had trouble getting my ball cap on (Go Cards!). My toes were icicles when I got off the bike. I couldn't run from dismount to rack because of it. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: This was my longest EVER run, and by the end, I felt it. My watch had totally crapped out on me, so I had no idea what my pace was. I picked to people in front of me, and tried to not lose them as they seemed to go about my pace. My legs felt like bricks (ha!) the entire time. I pushed and pushed to finish, but had to walk for about 2 minutes due to calf pain. Came through the shoot and felt icky, but satisfied. I knew I had beaten my overall time goal. Now, as I see the results, I know why I was so pooped, this was my fastest run this season! What would you do differently?: Run more, and maybe drink less. I was still a little sloshy, but I never felt thirsty. Post race
Warm down: Walked a lap of the parking lot to cool down. I felt a little sick from all the sloshiness, but felt much better after I cooled down for about 5 minutes. My calf was aching and I didn't want to sit down because then I'd never get up. What limited your ability to perform faster: Cold legs and toes on the bike. Event comments: My first race (and only other) was put on by a larger group, so there was more freebies, announcers at T1/T2, music and lots of post race stuff. This is a smaller race in comparison, but good, very well organized. They had plenty of food after and free massages (but I didn't wait, I was too tired to stand in line!). There was a computer glitch with ages and time, but no big deal since I don't place. I went into this race wanting to push myself and set goals that were attainable but challenging. I am very pleased with this to close out my season! Last updated: 2005-10-09 12:00 AM

Up right on time after a restless night of sleep. Ate an egg with cheese on toast with a glass of water. Drank coffee on the way to the race location. Got there about 6:30am. Set up transition. Ate a banana about an hour before my start.
None.
