Swim
Comments: While my swimming has improved, its still an area that I need vast improvement. I thought I would finish under the 1:30 mark this time however my second lap was 7 minutes slower than the first. I did have some fatigue but I do not know how to explain why my 2nd lap was so much slower. The first lap was an all out fight with the other competitors. Its the first time I've ever been scared in an open water swim. People were swimming over top of each others. I heard a few girls scream, and I helped and older guy over to a buoy because he was panicking. IMLP has to get their numbers down or they are going to have a problem some day. What would you do differently?: Start further outside and not wait for the pack to go. I waited for about a minute before I started thinking it would allow things to spread out, however all it did was make me swim past some of the slower less experienced swimmers and that was a major mistake. Transition 1
Comments: T1 should not have taken me this long. T1 is very long at IMLP. There is a long run to the changing tent, and another decent run to your bike. Even so I took my time getting my shirt on and making sure I had everything I needed. I should have gotten through T1 in about 5 min. What would you do differently?: Wear my tri top under my wet suit. Bike
Comments: 2nd lap was slower than the 1st. This was mainly due to back soreness. I also had stomach issues during the entire bike. Nearly impossible to take down solid food. First time that has ever happened to me. I also do not think I put the right bike training in. I needed twice the volume that I actually fit in. The fatigue I felt clarified this fact. 2nd lap was pretty much miserable. I think this is due to my stomach issues. That coupled with my back issues made things miserable. I ate and drank as much as I could to get things back in line for the run. What would you do differently?: Develop a better food plan. Get better training in. Transition 2
Comments: T2 should not have taken me this long. I had to stop and use the port-o-potty, and I took a really long time putting easy glide on my feet and making sure I had everything I needed for the run. I should have gotten through T2 in about 5 min. Run
Comments: The first 4 miles were miserable due to the issues I had on the bike. I was a little bloated from taking down so many calories. Fortunately this paid off because I recovered from miles 5 - 18. Miles 18-25 I was pretty much knocked down. I was averaging a 12-13 min pace and doing everything I could to pick it up for the home stretch. Miles 23-25 were all 12:05 min miles so this was very good. Unfortunately I completely bonked with .5 miles to go. My last mile was 15 min. My heart rate was fluctuating from 185-80 depending on if I was running or walking. Not sure why but this had to be due to nutrition. What would you do differently?: Nutrition Nutrition Nutrition Post race
Warm down: Walked 1 mile back to the house. Feet were killing me so it was miserable. What limited your ability to perform faster: Proper Training and race day Nutrition Event comments: Love IMLP. Can't wait to do it again. Last updated: 2009-11-05 12:00 AM

Up at 4:15am. Took a warm shower (15min). Two eggs, banana, strawberry, glass of Apple juice, 1 water, and cup of coffee for breakfast. Left a little late. Would have preferred to get to transition 15 minutes earlier. I forgot to put my garmin on my bike which was a problem. I had to give it to my wife and we did a garmin hand off as I ran to T1 after the swim. Not ideal. Otherwise everything went well and as planned. (Also took 2 endorlytes before the swim)
None... However I should have swam around for at least 2-3 minutes before the swim start.
