Comments:

Race turned into a Duathlon due to tragic reasons.
I was in next to last wave so it was almost 8 when we started. Heat was starting to build already. This 5K was into a non shaded part of the course, but it was still early so it wasn't too bad. Stayed in a comfortable zone basically warming up for the day.
Transition 1
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

Need to start working on these. Giving up way too much time here. Did get stuck behind 3 people trying to get out with my bike. Same blocking rule should apply in transition! With no wetsuit to get rid of, I should have had a much faster time here.
What would you do differently?:

Practice.
Bike

Comments:

Felt pretty good on the bike and I probably could have pushed it harder out there. Was thinking about the hot 10K ahead as the heat was really starting to build. Bike course is fairly shaded so it wasn't so bad on that. I think the long rides have not given me great speed, but have allowed me to ride a decent pace and not feel it coming off for the run.
Transition 2
  • 02m 12s
Comments:

Again, pretty slow.
Run
  • 47m 14s
  • 6.21 miles

Comments:

It was a hot run and people were dropping like flies. Lots and lots of walkers. Felt pretty good to be going by so many people since I started in the next to last wave. Run was solid but not spectacular. Stayed in my zone and kept an even split. Long hot training for LP has made me a much more consistent racer as far as pace goes. I knew I was not going to blow up out there like so many did because I have been through many long hot training days already this year. It has hit 90 degrees 14 times here in the Philly area in the month of June alone. I think I am heat acclimated.

Event comments:

Always a great race. Fairmount Park is a fantastic venue and shows off a great side of the city. Found out later I was 4th in my AG out of 158 so I was pretty happy about that. Since Philly is part of the Toyota/Lifetime series, this qualifies me for free entry into the championship race in Dallas in October. Pretty cool as I don't usually win anything!
