Overall Rank = 150/220

Age Group Rank = 32/41
Pre-race routine:

First Tri so just figuring out what to do was the goal. Set up transition area (important to go early if good spot is wanted) - Got numbered and into wetsuit. Attended pre-race meeting. Very nervous.
Event warmup:

Very little warm up. It was a bit cold (the sand made my feet very cold). Did a few practice water entries. Had difficulty with new goggles - got a replacement paid from a friend just in time for the race.
Swim
  • 14m 2s
  • 440 yards
  • 03m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Had difficulty keeping face in water on crawl. Did best once started backstroking. Very tired by the time I reached the first bouy. Also difficult to get in after rounding second bouy (strong tide).
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on breathing technique and comfort with freestroke in ocean.
Transition 1
  • 05m 7s
Comments:

Needed a short rest after swim.
What would you do differently?:

Have separate towel ready to dry feet - not just mat for transition area.
Bike
  • 34m 47s
  • 10 miles
  • 17.25 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Could have pushed harder - need to work on mounting and dismounting bike as well as cornering.
Transition 2
  • 02m 49s
What would you do differently?:

Need to improve dismounting bike and running with biking shoes on.
Run
  • 32m 13s
  • 3 miles
  • 10m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Fist mile difficult on jello legs after biking. Need to train better for running - only had two 1.5 mile runs prior to Triathlon. New (pronator) shoes helped with the pain in my feet and knees. No knee pain at all.
What would you do differently?:

Train the running event.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked and drank water. Stretched (standing) leg muscles.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Limited training. Starteg 6 weeks prior to Triathlon and didn't really take seriously until 2 weeks prior. Need to also focus better on nutrition generally - not just race day.

Event comments:

Don't know how to rate because it was my first - nothing to compare it to - but it seemed like a well-organized race with volunteers in transition area helpful answering questions. Looking forward to my next race - pretty much hooked.
