Overall Rank = 164/400
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 40/96
Pre-race routine:

Got there late and with very little sleep because there was a Hurricane hovering in the area and was not sure if it would turn and head our way!!! Rushed to place everything on the towel at the transition area and headed over to the swim.
Event warmup:

a 1 minute swim to loosen up because race was about to start
Swim
  • 17m 15s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 18s / 100 meters
Comments:

Was my first Tri in 10 years. It was pretty rough swimm. We had the largest wave with 96 participants, so the kicking, etc, was pretty intense. The current was pretty strong and the visibility was so so. It took more effort than I expected and I heard the same from several other swimmers.
What would you do differently?:

Stay close to the side to avoid the current and to stay away from the kicking. Also swim more because I had been sick and could not train enough.

Transition 1
  • 04m
Comments:

It took a little while on my transition. It was a long 350 yards to the transition area. I was a little dizzie from the swimm and wanted to make sure I had everything. I put on my heart rate monitor, socks, helmet, etc...

The time is estimated because the split is not posted.
What would you do differently?:

Can definitively do it faster next time.
Bike
  • 40m 10s
  • 20 kms
  • 29.88 km/hr
Comments:

Went somewhat easy on the bike to save myself for the run. Definitively need to get stronger on the bike. I should be able to shave 3 minutes with a little more training. Kept my heart rate under 165.
What would you do differently?:

Ride more.
Transition 2
  • 01m 53s
Comments:

Did T2 in pretty decent time for me, but almost forgot to take my helmet off as I started running.
What would you do differently?:

get some quick tie/stretch shoelaces. practice a bit more.
Run
  • 29m 14s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 51s  min/km
Comments:

I was feeling good at first but kept my heart rate under 175 at first and just under a 6 min/km pace. The run has been my weakest link and I was trying to administer myself. I think I did a good job because I was pretty tired by the end, specially with the big bridge before the finish line, but was able keep a decent pace.
What would you do differently?:

Train more to get a better base to be able to run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

cheer for my wife and the rest of my friends!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not enough training

Event comments:

It was a great race. Great ambiance and attitude from everyone. Beautiful setting. Need to do better next year!!
