Swim
Comments: They mentioned Saturday that they may have to cancel the swim in which case it would have been a mile beach run. YUCK! Luckily, the swim was on. Brad, Tim, Mario and I were all in the same wave. The surf was crazy and after seeing Wave 1 go and get pounded by 10 ft waves, we were a little nervous. When our wave began, it actually wasn't too bad to get out there. Once I rounded the first bouy, the current helped. I managed to catch a pretty big wave at the end to bring me almost onto the sand. What would you do differently?: Dolphin on the way out instead of getting hit by waves. Overall, I was happy with the swim. I looked at my watch getting out of the water and it was under 7 minutes. Transition 1
Comments: After you exited the water, there was about a 100 meter run up the soft sand to get to the mat. I think between pushing it on the swim and the excitement and craziness of the waves, I was breathing pretty hard. I ended up walking most of this to catch my breath. Once I hit the timing mat, I jogged to my bike. My time is slower than I would have liked, but I honestly can say that I wasn't really hustling in T1. I took time to get the sand off my feet so I didn't have issues once I put my socks on. Since it was still kind of chilly, I also had to put on my long sleeve shirt which is not a norm. What would you do differently?: Hustle more. Bike
Comments: Overall, the course was interesting and fun. I drank water/gatorade mix and managed to get a GU down in record time and without any issues at mile 10 (for those that know what an issue that is....that is impressive!). Damn...I think "liking GU" is going on my long term goals! In the end, I was happy with my bike time! I have definately seen improvement with my average mph and how powerful I feel on the bike. What would you do differently?: I took some of the corners easier than I probably needed to. Since it poured the day before and there was sand/gravel in some spots, I was cautious. Transition 2
Comments: No issues in T2. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: I started out feeling OK on the run. I didn't know there were hills on the course and they kind of snuck up on me! At the top of the first hill, I grabbed some water and walked about 25 meters. Course was interesting and was able to see all of my friends on the run. I was hoping for a faster run time, but when you throw in the hills, I was happy. Finished strong. What would you do differently?: Practice running on hills. All of my training is done on flat terrain. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed some water and met up with everyone. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think I could have been more prepared for the hills on the run. Other than that, it was a great race. Event comments: We've done three races this year hosted by Pirannah and they're all run well. There were a lot of friendly volunteers at the race. They closed the transition area pretty quickly after the race and we had to leave the awards ceremony to get our stuff out. Post race food was pretty good and no lines. It was also nice having real bathrooms (the bath houses in the state park). Overall, a great race! Really, any race with friends is a great race!! Last updated: 2005-10-10 12:00 AM

Stayed overnight at the Cape Henlopen Motel (actually an OK place!). Despite staying up later than usual for the PSU game, felt great and awake. Was kind of chilly in the morning though!
Ate a banana and wheat & PB crackers.
Drove to race site and set up transition. Ate a GU and some water/gatorate mix before start.
It was great staying a mile from the start!
No real warm up...
