Swim
Comments: My wave was next to last. Felt pretty good but had more contact with other swimmers than expected for about 5 mins and then it got thinned out. I found myself passing other swimmers which I didn't expect since I'm not a good swimmer. I focused on good gliding and a consistent push without over doing it. I later took a slightly left position of the main channel of swimmers which was good so i could focus on my stroke. At around halfway i decided to set my sights on a straight line toward the finish since the river is slightly curved. I knew that would slowly take me back into the channel of swimmers which it did. What would you do differently?: Work on getting faster in the off season Transition 1
Comments: My transition was just plain sloppy with all the rain. I. Took way too much time plus my spot was on the very far side of the transition from the bike in and bike out which took even more time. I also mis-hit my watch and messed up the multisport function so I spent time fixing that as well. What would you do differently?: Practice. Bike
Comments: My plan for the bike was to try to average 21 mph which I did. Very pleased with it but later i realized it was going to affect my run. That became very apparent at around mile 48 to 50. I was passing a lot of people but getting passed very seldom. It felt good to ride so fast even in the rain which stung when it hot my face and my glasses were hard to see out of. Once thing of note was that i had in my mind from last year that the hills which started around mile 18 were so big but this year didn't seem so big. Also experienced my first leg cramp in the bike but fortunately it was short and only happened once. What would you do differently?: Back off a little. Transition 2
Comments: Still not a great transition but better than T1 What would you do differently?: Practice. Run
Comments: Came off the bike and went into a sub 9 pace which I knew might be too fast but by mile 3 i knew i had to back off from it. I had gone too hard on the bike for this pace. I also started feeling a loss of energy so by the 3rd aid station i started taking the coke. It helped a little. The run was more of a struggle than I expected. I did walk a few times and at the aid stations but i kept it to very short walk each time. What would you do differently?: Push less on the bike. Post race
Warm down: Got some pizza and Walked over to the All 3 Sports tent and sat down for a while. What limited your ability to perform faster: Pushing too hard on the bike. Event comments: Didn't like the fact they would let cars in to the area at transition to get gear after the race. Last updated: 2009-11-10 12:00 AM
