Swim
Comments: Rough sea conditions. The hardest part was getting out to the first bouy. Once out along the course it wasn't too bad, just had to time your breaths when the big waves hit. Current was west southwest so that helped. Nice simple course, though, so i liked it. What would you do differently?: Training. Plain and simple. Only did a few times at the pool and that isn't going to cut it. Transition 1
Comments: Took my time. I ran up the beach after exiting the water and got cramps in my shins. Walked the rest of the way up. The timing mat for transition was pretty far up so that added time to swim. Walked through transition. Got to bike and had a gel after changing. Bike was racked right by the bike out so that was nice. What would you do differently?: Not sure if I'd change much. Didn't feel like rushing the transition. Bike
Comments: I kept the bike conservative because I thought that's what killed my run at MiamiMan. Plus I just didn't have the fitness to push. I didn't push and kept it easy on the bridges. Got a flat tire a half mile from the finish so I rode through it and hoped the tire would hold. It did but it was annoying having dozens of people pass me right at the end. Some tosser even asked me how it was going? I said other than the flat tire, great. What would you do differently?: Same as swim. Get more time in the saddle prior to race. Transition 2
Comments: Walked the bike to the rack. Got shoes on and race belt. Had another gel and some water. Ran out and made sure to keep pace nice and easy to start. Hit the bathroom right out of transition. Was killing me towards end of bike. What a relief! What would you do differently?: Again kept thing simple. Nothing to change. Run
Comments: Started out at an easy pace and got a little faster each mile. Skipped the first mile waterstop and got mile two, four, and five. I took 2 drinks at mile four at felt a little bloated so I'll string out the water stops next time. Got Accelerade at each stop. My right hamstring cramped up around mile four. Stopped and stretched and it went away after a bit. Right at the end of the run my left hammy started to protest. Stretched again and kept an easier pace and sprint to finish. Overcast skies kept the temperature good. Sun came out right at the end. What would you do differently?: Training. Run was faster than in November by a few minutes. Post race
Warm down: Walked around. Had a banana and bagel. Some Endurox at the Accelerade stand. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training. Rest. Event comments: Good race at a great venue. Will make this a regular stop. Last updated: 2009-11-12 12:00 AM

Got up at 4:30 and took a nice hot shower to loosen up. Little bit of a twinge in my lower back but it didn't affect the race. Walked down the street and got some whole-wheat pankcakes for breakfast. Got back to hotel and then went to transition to set up. Nice thing was our hotel was half a block from swim start so went back to the room to use the facilities and hang for a few minutes.
