Run
Comments: Miles: 1) (8:10) - 8:16 Last Year Following the crowd, really have no control of the pace of the first mile. Looking for a porta potty already and ready to take off sweatshirt. 2) (8:43) - 7:45 Last Year Stop at porta potty, take off sweatshirt or try to. Forgot about race belt, end up with sweatshirt off, but race belt around my neck and one side of my bib ripped and hanging. Hit the porta potty then on my way, tucking the one side of my bib into my shorts, where it stayed until the end. 3) (7:53) - 7:46 Last year. Foot feels good, no issues. This makes me happy. Found a couple of people running a nice solid pace and decided to follow them. 4) (7:52) - 7:49 Last Year Right on pace and feeling pretty good. 5) (7:55) - 7:54 Last Year No issues, enjoying running sub 8's and feeling good 6) (7:55) - 7:53 Last Year Ticking off the miles, headed to the track 7) (8:01) - 8:08 Last Year Always a slow mile for me, not sure why. 8) (7:55) - 7:54 Last Year Still following the pacers :) 9) (7:55) - 7:51 Last Year Out of the track and into the "homestretch" 10) (7:55) - 7:51 Last Year Feeling really not bad 11) (8:06) - 7:42 Last Year Uh Oh, lots of turns and staring to feel that pain in my back same as last year at the same point of the race WTH? 12) (8:35) - 7:50 Last Year Fighting through the pain better (I thought) than last year. Glen meets up with me and we run the rest in together. 13) (10:19) - 9:06 Last Year Didn't feel this slow here. Really happy Glen was with me. He helped to push me home and I think I helped him too (which helped me back again :)) What would you do differently?: Not too much. Wasn't sure where I was with the training I've done and I'm happy to get through this with no issues and at a fairly strong pace. I don't feel near as strong with running as I did last year at this time, but my overall time was not too different (3 minutes or so). Post race
Warm down: Walked, stretched, got pic taken, saw Nate (who had a GREAT race), and found my freezing family. I waited and watched for Monica, who completed her 1st 1/2 marathon and is excited about going back next year. How great is that!!! My favorite part of the race was afterwords, standing with Mom, Megan, and Becca. They were freezing and the girls were trying to make sure each other and Mom were covered with the blanket. Megan holding the blanket up for Mom with her bare hand in the cold wind. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of run training, recovering from PF, and lack of confidence in my run training and foot. But, it is coming along and I'm ontrack for IMWI in Sept. Garmin says 13.24 miles. Goal this year was to test foot (recovering from Plantar Fasciitis), with a loose goal of 8' miles. Other than the bathroom stop with the sweatshirt issue and a little trouble at the end I knocked out 7 of the miles under 8'. Event comments: Awesome Race!!! Love this one. They do it very well every year. Last updated: 2009-11-13 12:00 AM

Stayed downtown this year and it was great to just get up and walk to start. Ate bagel at hotel and coffee. The free hotel breakfast didn't start until 6:30 (on race day, really?) so had to pay way to much for a bagel from the Starbucks in the hotel. Carried one bottle of water with caffeine and 4 gels on course.
Lost Monica at her corral, talked to her on the phone to make sure everything was ok and then headed to the porta potty and then to my corral. Stood in corral freezing from the wind. Probably the coldest I've been to start a run. Knew I'd get rid of the sweatshirt and told myself to remember to pull down race belt first.
