What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm just starting speed work for running. This really establishes a marker on the map for me. Next spring will be an interesting test of my training results. Event comments: I started off at the back of the group - very crowded, hard to pass, lots of jostling. HR was very high to start - 175 - probably race day excitement. After about a mile I found my pace. My goal was to keep my HR around 165 and accept whatever the results were. I had to consistently push myself to keep from dropping below HR. I was hoping for 8:30 min/mile and ended up with 8:43 min/mile. Not bad - I'll take it, but I clearly need to speed up. The first half was 8:53 min/mile, second half was 8:34. After mile 3 I stepped up the pace and pushed myself a little harder, but never really broke into a high HR, like 170 or higher.
